Yeah mate, I will win Erzberg on the 630 for ya! Because Erz is just what a 630 is built for eh! Its a lightweight competition bike not a dual sport! Stu
Nice!! My Wolfman fender bag spent many a mile on my 610, now on my XRR and maybe someday on a 630. You guys saying it's too heavy are goofy. My 2007 610 set up and ready to go with 5 gallons of fuel was 360#'s on a certified scale.
I happy you like your 610, and that you can beat 450 and 300 2T bikes on it. Were those dual sport 300 2ts? Anyway If you think adding 30lbs. when redesigning an alredy heavy bike is good, well I dunno. . . . guess this is adventure rider. I think it's sad that Husky has reduced the bike that put competition four strokes back on the map to a 330 pound pig. Anyone here remember Jacky Martens, 1993? Of course not this is adventure rider, silly me. I have a 2000 TE 610 kicker, which was 259lbs. dry as tested by Cycle World in May 2000 and an '05 estart Berg 650 which weighed 251 dry as tested by Dirt Bike. The Berg is a competition machine, the 610 was a competition bike but detuned to trail bike status, but still pretty light, and reliable. There's no reason a big bore reliable dual sport has to weigh 330 lbs. and dual exhaust is just more weight, but to street guys I guess weight is a plus.
FWIW, I weighed my fully fulled DR (ok, somewhat undressed, no blinkers, no pillion rails, no mirrors, but with different forks and an 18" rear wheel as well) at 158 kgs.
You do realize the two pipes was only to pass the sound requirements that they were already ultra close on????/ Two pipes, tall gearing, detuned power are usually always because of sound. The price we have to pay for a 50 state walk in the DMV plateable bike... big Fin deal. Give me 20 minutes and I'll pull 30 lbs off almost anything if need be and still stay road legal enough.
At least they have changed the airbox, but whether it's an improvement remains to be seen. Looks like they still have the same cheesy footpeg mounts.
I do remember Jacky Martins and still have the DirtRider from then. You are dead-on and I'm with you. Carry on.
pick up a used 08 te610 now with low miles for around $5K - seems like dealers are letting go of the 09's for around $6.5 too.... spoke to Uptite today and they said 2010's will be in limited numbers and not until May/June
Does anyone know how extensive the frame revisions are from the TE610 to the TE630? Will the existing IMS after-market gas tanks for the TE610 fit the TE630? I'd hate to have to wait another 2 years for a large fuel tank! Aqualine has left the Husky market to other manufacturers, and IMS took quite a while to put their 5 gallon tank on the market for the TE610.
There isn't even an IMS tank for the current EFI bikes, so there is no way it will work on the new 630.
Thats the thing. Personally I NEED at least 400km range so until we can get some big tanks I am waiting
Yah, but what's funny about that is that since the 610 box doesn't even come close to sealing up between the cover and main body of the box, it wouldn't matter as far as water crossings anyway. Unless they somehow made the plastic more flat, rigid and maybe added an oring to seal it up... Yes the 610 airbox sucks, but some of the other things you guys are complaining about... footpegs...yes the stockers are narrow, but you can buy a used set of "wide" pegs off an mx bike for $25 on ebay and with a bit of grinding, they fit right on. footpeg mounts...all you need is a few minutes with a file or grinder, and some loctite...problem solved turning radius...you are correct that it isn't very tight due to interference between the forks and tank, but I've found that with the right leaning and throttle technique the bike turns very tight! the 610 has some minor quirks just like many bikes do, but certainly shouldn't be a "deal breaker" for anyone who truly wants a great dual sport bike. I'm quite skeptical that you are going to take anywhere close to 30 pounds off the 630 with just exhaust. If I remember correctly, the weight savings on the 610 when switching to a Leo was minimal, maybe a pound or two?
I'm having trouble buying the 30 lbs extra weight. What could possibly add 30 lbs? The top end of the motor probably adds a bit with 2 cams and the extra pipe & can maybe adds 10. (If I remember correctly the stock exhaust can on the 610 is about 8 lbs.) Where could the other 20 or so pounds be? 20 lbs is a lot of iron.
Hoder, according to the published specs, the 630 is 10kgs heavier than the 610. That is 22lbs, half of which must be the additional exhaust. The rest could very well be a stiffer frame and subframe?
Reading through this thread, the number thrown out for the 610 was 296 with no fuel, 317 full of fuel, evidently the "brochure weight" for the 630 is 330.7 dry. I can't imagine they would want to exaggerate the brochure weight, they did the opposite on the 510 a few years ago. So the frame is all new?
