    HI WJR,

I had a KLR that was pretty tall, and the 990 is definitely lower. Not sure if that helps you at all, but if you are 5"9 or taller you should be able to at least "half-foot" the bike on each side.

    Thanks That helps.

I was in talking to the dealer today and he would neither confirm or deny that the end of the 990 was near. His thoughts were that with the 1190 coming stateside ( early 2013 was his guess) it wouldn't surprise him that the 990 would stop being produced.

I had the '11 690R, sold it and got an '11 990R. The 990R is lower.
I dunno how it is compared to those new '12 690's as their even lowered more. My guess is that they're pretty equal as the '11 690 wasnt that much higher.

We have not seen any difinitive proof that that KTM is halting production of the 990. Until an official release and/or removal of the 990 on the KTM website, let's keep rumors as rumors. As it sits right now no one at KTM has confirmed the cease of 990 production. Still on the website. And in fact I have heard more confirmation that the 990 will remain in production than not. Let's hold our horses here.

Ha! Look on page 101. There is a 990 ADV . . . in the photo for "Adventure"

Okay, I'm taking this as a sign of the times.

The only 990s from here on seem to be in the SM flavor of bikes. At least the power plant will still be in production.

Well they did quit making the 640 Adventure didn't they? And they didn't come out with a 690 Adventure as a direct replacement did they?
Hmmmmm, changing market? Changing demographic? Or changing economies? We'll never know the real reason for these sort of decisions.

Spoke with my dealers GM today, they will not be receiving anymore 990's. He also told me they won't get the replacement till 2014.

I'm kinda liking the concept of the 1190, Bigger tank, off-road ABS (finally someone did this), 150 HP, and what looks like reasonable access for service. Someone will work out the niggles like skidplate and other mods to get it closer to bulletproof.

But I'm a cheapskate and won't buy new. Considering that I bought my 2004 in 2011, this could mean I'll be getting one of the 1190 bikes in something like 2020.

Gonna have to make this 950 last till then . . . :eek1

Now, back to servicing the forks that have started bleeding all over the floor. :rofl

Start with the premise that a business needs to profitably sell things in order to stay in business, and it starts to make sense.

So what does that leave for options in that size range going forward? BMW and Triumph?

Search cycletrader.com - Put in the zip, bike and distance. Did this and found several with 990s - Adv and R. but not sure how often the info is updated. It does give you the name of the dealer for more research.

Ha! Love the way they refer to it as the Otto motor.

    "990 Adventure

    Design 2-cylinder 4-stroke Otto motor, 75° V arrangement, water-cooled "

    Anyone else make the connection?

    Sorry I guess I should update !

    I brought home a new 2010 white on the 4th . :clap Don't know why I waited .
I had to drive across state but she is worth it ! 700 miles so far and loving it !!!!!!!

I think it would be a mistake if they don't build both . 1190 just seems to much (exspecially now) for any closed in off the slab seious riding to me . But just my opinion .

I too was concerned that we are seeing the last of the 950/990 line. I've been jonesing for a KTM 990 for over a year but have held off for various reasons. I did not want to buy a 1st gen 1190 and so felt pushed to get a 990 while I could. Plus all the local dealers have discounted the 2012 990's by $1000-1500. So yesterday I put money down on a white 990. Can't wait to get it though in Oregon the riding can be hit or miss in the Winter.:clap
