Gidday Lars the second package arrived today, the crank and special pistons will get these old girls going mate :deal.
I will get a cam done down under and new rockers, all of this I will do over the next few months, and some pumpers off the orange bike, allso I think I will go to a larger foam filter than the one I am using now.
    cheers and thanks. Rob.

Hey Rob, glad to hear the goodies have arrived :)

I've got one cylinder bored out to 108mm last week, within the next few weeks I'll manage to get one "super size me" engine running, maybe for my SR43. Let's see what happens... :freaky
I hope that the head gaskets do their job, otherwise I'll have to do another type of gaskets.

    Cheerio!

Are you guys using oversized Suzuki pistons or have you found another source.....possibly from the auto world?

    Fun,

What kind of displacement are you going to get?

Back when I was helping work on road race cars, we used to seal the high-compression cylinders by having the block machined with a circular groove to accept a copper wire.

Don't remember the actual measurements but the wire would sit in the groove and protrude 2 to 4 thousanths above the block. The head compresses the wire to seal. This can be used with or without the standard head gasket or the gasket can be trimmed back. If there's enough block material you can even use 2 grooves.

At least the single doesn't have other cylinders competing for block space.

Will the weight of the new piston be close to standard so the counterbalancers will still function?

Mate, I was thinking 'bout 830ccm or nearly 800ccm with a DR750 crank.
I have to take a closer look to the pistons weight and the balancing rate, but I think the counterbalancing will work.
I keep you guys informed on this :)

    Cheers,
    Lars

    Hi
the bike started to get a drip of petrol wile on the side stand, so I took it to the mechaninc about 6 months ago and when he finished the bike , she wasn't running smoothly, now when hot, it seems like she is missing fuel oh something and its stalls at idle when hot, also if you let the speed drop it coughs (no misfire) so I took it bag he said clean the jets and the carb. and he told me that he could not see anything wrong, but stil doing the same thing Sunday was the longest drive that I done since this start it, and it was not good so I when back home. any ideas? that y is doing that and what can I look for, I'm not clever on motors so I would need clear instrucions dam I can't even take the gas tanks off lol
    sorry
    Thx again guys. :(::(:

And? You try first and I can follow? :)

Did you get compression up too?

Come on, you make me really really anxious. You understand - if I can get away with added cc and upped compression instead of buying KTM 690! :)

You remember that I was up for it too?

BTW - one of my friends discovered that DR800 using precisely same valves as 2 liter basically contemporary subaru motor.
I asked him to get exact motor model to be sure.

Rob, Lars, you got my full attention now!
I was looking for 108mm pistons some time ago (no serious plan, just dreaming) and found these guys:
    http://www.jbsracingpage.co.uk/Shop Contents/Husaberg_Shop_Scroll.htm
    scroll down for 108mm piston

I have no idea if pin location and other important details would match DR's, probably not.

Go on, I'm glued to computer to see the results.

ReaperX, dripping gas when the bike on the side stand: Malfunction on needle valve, blocked oder worn, or o-seal defect. Did you ultrasonic clean the carbs? Sounds that one of the tiny pilot holes or so is blocked.
I disassemble the carbs, clean them with degraser, lay 'em about one day or two in denaturaded alcohol.
After that I'll blow them dry with compressed air and check each hole gently with a broach.
I use new seals, and change the worn parts...

On some carbs I had the engine stalling when decelerationing, caused by heavy worn nozzle needle...

Bluesman, I do remember, for sure
I left the compression at stock (for the moment... hrrhrr), maybe the next pistons get slightly higher compression ratio.
I want to get the engine running... for the next step :evil

    Cheers,
    Lars

    Thank you!
I am looking for raising compression because I had chance to run my DR on 92 (I found place, where owners of collectable old cars have special place to fill up) and I was amazed how better it ran.

What's worse...my VTR1000F runs on 92 better and use less petrol than 95.

Do not know why. I guessed it is low compression rate of both motors.

    Mait, I didn't found them UK-guys..
I met some guys on the 2010 Intermot in Cologne,Germany.
We built a couple of pistons at my spec, I reamed one barrel last week (I mentioned allready, I think),
and get the whole bunch assembled...

    Cheers,
    Lars

Mate, no, we've got in germany some suppliers, too.
But I think wemoto makes good prices for this stuff.
When you buy these tiny o-seals at Suzuki, you'll pay a lot of bucks...
If you find out that the needles and/or nozzles are worn, drop me a PN ;)

    Cheers,
    Lars
