I gotta ask crybaby... What line of work takes you to Van Horn? Van Horn is literally in the middle of no where... NFE
This particular thread is for West Texas, which is about 500 miles from Wichita Falls, but welcome to Texas... Your riding choices are Oklahoma and Arkansas unless you want to drive 8 hours west to New Mexico. The area around Muenster, Texas... along the Red River is popular and the area between Memphis and Childress is another area on the Prairie Dog Town fork of the Red River but I haven't been to either place since the mid 70's
There's an organized ride coming up in Big Bend. Here's a link: http://ridedualsport.com/forum/index.php?topic=2807.0 Maybe we can go for a ride sometime.
This sounds like a great time and I'll try to make it this year It's only about a hundred miles from Van Horn and I hear that is s short distance in Texas - I don't know what my new work schedule will be until early Nov so I'll play it by ear for now but this sounds fun. If I make it I'll be camping out of my van
If you're working for the company that has the space port north of Van Horn on HWY 54, we need to talk about riding on that ranch...
Bingo - we have a winner I was told during the interview that offroad riding is very prohibited on that ranch, including employee access - Also was told that is one of the fastest ways to be fired.
Aerospace... it was either that or fixing flats at the truck stop... Good luck with the venture. Will the public be invited to see a launch? NFE
Thanks for the reply, I'll have to look into those spots for sure. I also might have to spring for a set of 17"s and pop some wheelies with sm crowd around DFW. Lots of possibilities down south, cant wait to see what kind of trouble I can find
West Texans, Im in Fort Stockton (Alpine soon) and will have my new KLR 650 some time in October. I am about 120 miles east of Van Horn. I have a Jeep that I cruise around in now. Not much off road because I dont know of much, but I like a Balmorhea, Fort Davis, Marfa, Alpine route. Hovey Road is a nice dirt road ride. I plan on some Big Bend Ranch State Park runs also and the county roads mentioned earlier in this thread.
Hi Guys, I'm living in Andrews, stuck between Lubbock and Odessa. I just picked up a 1998 R 1100 GS, if any one knows of any good places to ride around here please let me know. Merry Christmas, Bill
The area west of Carlsbad around Queen is the nearest place worth riding to... Cloudcroft...too cold in the winter Big Bend Nat'l park...usually warmer than the rest of the state Presidio & Big Bend State Park... Ojinaga, Mexico...if you're more adventureous....:eek1
Has anyone ever been over to the kermit sand dunes to ride? I am thinking about making a trip just to see what it is like. Would anyone like to go to show me the ropes maybe sometime this summer?
I'm not sure you can still ride the Kermit sandhills... 2 or 3 years ago the land owner got fed up with the drunks and littering.. I think you can still ride the Imperial area... About half way between Odessa and Monahans on I-20, go south on Hwy 1053 about 10-12 miles until you hit the intersection of Hwy 1053 & Hwy 1233.... The area west of 1053 is open....
Here is that spot... http://goo.gl/maps/k2zOE Zoom in to see the detail.... each "dot" is a wellsite. End of the Earth, I tell you... NFE
hey fellas. My buddy and I both ride DRZ 400 E's that we converted to street legal and are looking for some other guys to ride with or some organized rides. We are willing to travel but not to Houston, lol. Just thought I'd throw it out there in case anyone else is looking for some others to ride with. We are both near 50 yrs. old and have dirt backgrounds but enjoy the dual sport scene immensely! Look forward to hearing from someone. Thanks. email build14u@yahoo.com
