Any chance you all are designing a heavier duty rock light grill/shield for the Lynx lights? I know "stick on" ones come with the unit but I am wondering if there is anything being planned/designed that is heavier duty.
We thought about this before trying the Vinyl covers. I guess we felt that soted the problem and I think largely it has ( although I do know of one lamp that did crack with a particularly big rock). Perhaps we'll take a look at this again, because apart from anything, it would look pretty cool ! It's going to be a ba&*%$!!!!d trying to mount something to that shape though ! Ian PS The bike looks great !
Thanks. Yeah I agree it would give a more aggressive look and be functional. I'll keep an eye out. Thanks again.
Well the ones on the left with MSR on them are from Malcom Smith Racing. If you meant the ones attached to the 690, you would do a lot better to ask in the general 690 thread http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=722987&page=70 This thread is just meant for things related to the Lynx fairing for the 690.
hi! anyone has tried the difference between the two Hellas lights, the comination of Hellas with HID and the full HID ? maybe there are video or photos that show the difference betwee different light power I need to know if the Hellas are good enought for night driving many thanks
We really should get around to showing the difference on our website ! Anyway, just as a guide, the Hellas are definately good enough for night riding and depending what bike you have, the standard halogens are 2-3 times brighter than stock. The biggest reason for the HID's is actually electrical power consumption. The HID's use half the power ( 35w) and push out about 50% more than the halogens. For this reason HID low beam ( which remains on all the time) and halogen hi is the most popular combo. HID's can be easily be added at a later date if desired. Hope this helps. Cheers Ian
Hi Ian, thanks for your answer I have a KTM 690 enduro R but with Dottori rally light spoiler. I have also changed the original light with KTM, 690 enduro standar light (bigger but not so effective). I believe your suggestion regarding combo should be best choice but I have some doubt regarding HID because I don't like to have more electric things (like switch , etc ) ...you know what they say: if there isn't , will not be break ever I'm seriuosly thinking to purchase your Lynx but I have some question for you before order: - could be possible to have ABS dash predrilled to install quickly the oem instrument without any wire modification? - I have not understood well how the dash must be mounted on the triple clamp...have you a couple of photos were I can get a look? I guess the dash use the same bolt to fix the riser on the clamp but not sure - I think to make too hole in the dash to mount GPS, instrument, etc could weaken the dash...isn't it? I have to be sure that the vibrations during off riding and the weight of accessories (GPS,oem instrument...) cannot break the ABS lastly how much time to have the Lynx from the order? how much the airmail shipping to Rome, Italy? thanks Marco
Marco - I also own a 690 Enduro, and have equipped it with a Lynx. I will say that you won't have any problems with the ABS dash breaking - it's 5~6mm thick, and quite strong. To mount the OEM instruments and the GPS, I suggest that you trace the outlines of both parts on paper, and transfer the mounting hole locations to the paper by rubbing the edge of a pencil over the holes. Then you can position the instruments and GPS as you see fit. Don't forget to leave room to operate the locking mechanism on the GPS cradle -- I had to shift mine downward by 1 cm because I couldn't get my fingers on the locking lever.
Marco -- Yes, the dash fitting is very straight forward and the wiring is all plug 'n play now, so no wiring for you to do except your GPS. The dash on the 690 fits straight onto the front face of the top triple sharing the 3 bolt holes that your indicator bracket uses. email me at britanniacomposites@shaw.ca for more info and shipping rates. Ian
I have taken off the oem indicator repositioning another smaller model ...but I guess can use the hole of oem Indicator to fit the dash, isn't it? Thanks
I ordered mine last week in orange with black decals, HID low beam and halogen high beam. Ian says it's ready and I can't wait to get it installed. Will post pix when done.
Picked it up today! What's in the box: Before: After: Install took me about three hours. I could have done it faster but it was a lazy, sunny Saturday so... It went together really easily but the bolts in the lower triple clamp are a bit of a bear to get to. Huge improvement in wind protection on the road and no downside off road. I need to get it out at night to really try out the lights. There is a slight 'buzzing' vibration at some engine speeds which is likely due to a wiring connector touching the inside of the fairing. I had to remove the rubber grommets from the turn indicator mount and there is a bit more vibration in them than before so I may add a bit of rubber back in. Minor annoyances more than anything else. Overall, I'm really happy with it.
I have mounted Lynx on my KTM 690 enduro R and I'm really satisfied of it Britannia has developed a great and affordable solution to permit riding and traveling in very hard off road condition especially in Italy where you have often to drive in extreme enduro situations This is my bike with Lynx
Here's my Lynx. I must have gotten one of the first designs that mounted under the bar clamps. WTF? So I had an aluminum plate fabbed up to fit the issue. Far better mounting, and a lot sturdier. Still room for my roll chart once the new one shows up.
