I love threads like this as it opens a window into something really interesting of which I had zero knowledge before.

I swear...one of my students must be driving over there to take classes with you. I have one that has zero sense of personal space or privacy, I have turned around to find him reading over my shoulder as I type on a laptop in the lab. Some of his fellow students have made it clear to him that they don't appreciate it, but he always finds someone else to hover over. (The guy does get his work done though)

Good stuff on the class, looks like you learned a lot and had a (mostly) good time doing it. I'm not surprised that the guy tried to leech onto your work in the end. Happens here all the time, but I keep very good records on attendance and make notes about who is screwing off, etc. even if they are there.

Member 1 = me.
Member 2 = complaining guy who showed up twice.
Member 3 = meowing guy who showed up most of the time, but was mentally elsewhere.
Member 4 = guy who showed up once.

I don't know how they fared. I don't even know how I did. I hope I got an A. I hope they were "rewarded" for their work, too.. but it's none of my business.

What do you teach?

CNC, SolidWorks, PLC, and robotics/automation. It can be difficult switching gears from one thing to the next but my schedule is finally hammered out so that I have at least one CNC course each semester. Next semester I'm running a course that deals strictly with designing a new product (or fixture) and the problems/redesigns that come with work holding and actual machining, it will utilize SolidWorks, CAM and CNC to make a prototype of the designs. Should be interesting.

I love, love, love the job but I now understand why school gets let out for the summer. I take more baggage home with me on this than on any job I've ever had and it gets tiresome sometimes. I worked the first 3 summers but the last 2 I have taken off and/or done some customized 1 - 2 week training with factories (PLC stuff).

Just checking in again. Thanks for the description of your class. Makes me want to go to school and take a few of these for fun.

Great news, and Congratulations.

Well, the semester already started. I've had 2 CNC lectures so far. There are 13 people in the class. No girls.

Lab begins next week. Unfortunately, there will be lab groups again.

I'm trying not to jinx myself in that respect. I'm looking forward to the projects.

I tried to take a PLC short course, but my Demolition class has a lab on one of the 4 days the PLC lab is scheduled. Oh well..
