How the hell will he navigate the CDT?!

KHJ--Check your inbox. Replied on 4/13 at 8:48pm. :deal

Also, my message stats are currently showing 1719 messages received and 1720 sent, so I'm pretty good at staying on top of those. I've got my preferences set to give me a pop-up whenever a message comes in, plus I get an e-mail notification from ADV when a new message arrives.

    Need me to re-send?

In preparation for the trip, I started going back to the gym. Arrghhhh! Haven't been to the gym since before my knee surgery in 2010. Well, after 4 weeks going three times a week, I can report that old muscles do still respond to training.

I've seen my numbers on the circuit go consistently upwards. Most interestingly, my abs. On the first day, I had trouble doing one single rep on the ab machine. Now I'm doing 3 sets of 15, increasing the weight each time. Also, kinda weird, they have a back extension machine on the circuit at my gym and, on that one, I put the pin all the way to the bottom of the stack then do 3 sets of 20 and it's hardly any effort at all. So how come my back's so strong and my abs are like barely there?

Same kinda deal on arms and legs. On the military press, I can barely the first 5 plates in the stack, but on the knee extension machine I can lift the whole stack (300 lbs)! I've started now to back it down to 200 lbs then do one leg at a time. Again, why are my arms so weak and my legs so strong?

In any event, I'm sure that I'm gonna be sore after doing back-to-back-to-back long days on the trail. But I'm making sure that the old bones will be able to take the abuse. Also looking forward to being able to fall asleep as soon as I zip up the sleeping bag! :D

Ok got it; but you didn't commit to have me shoot. If you were serious about the offer; we need to chat and then I can send the contract.

As I have stated, if it is an assignment; I most likely can make the ride.
    PM me your phone contact.

    Thanks

Took a 3-day class in Wilderness First Aid . Picked up my CPR card too. Learned lots of good stuff. Threw away about 2/3rd's of the supplies in my first aid kit and now I'm restocking it.

There's also a good thread here on ADVrider that talks about First Aid kits -- here. Some fluff there, but clearly also some guys who know their stuff. One of the most important things is that it's useless to pack medical supplies that you don't know how to use. But now that I know a lot more than I used to, I'm expanding! :D

Hopefully I won't need to use what I learned but when you're nowhere near cell phone coverage and there's a problem well then ya gotta do what you gotta do.

Time to bump this as the departure date is fast approaching. I have got the sidecar mounted to the KLR and did a 1000 mile trip,450 dirt, and it worked fine. Have done some twiking, widened the track, and now just an oil change, check the valves and a general going over of the entire bike and should be ready to hit the road.Wish us luck. Here's some pics of the maiden voyage.

What is your departure date? You are still starting at the Canadian border and going south?

There are three if us with two Urals and 1 DRZ beginning at Pie Town, nm tomorrow and heading north. Wonder if we would be able to coordinate a meet up?

Dang! We have to be back home by July 12th so were just going to go as far as we could go before we turned around. We will already be back in Texas before you start heading down.

I see you live in Colorado. Are you anywhere near the CDT and perhaps you could meet us and let me buy you a beer.

Got your PM. I will call you tomorrow.
