NX250 Thread -- official ADV owners manual

I'm not really looking for one right now, I have the TA. I'd like to have another NX some day.

It came from a wire shop. It was used to lift roles of wire in to a nail machine.

I don't know if they go that high, but I've seen something like that at Harbor Freight.


I was thinking about using it as a transmission jack for my 4WDs a long time ago...

VC I would love to spend some time with you and your rusting NX. I now a real neet way to remove rust.

I had some time this morning before I had to get ready for work so me and it took a little ride. The snow is moving up the mountian but not all that fast.





This at the snow park on FS70 they ran the grader down the road to make it some smoother for the sleds. It is 7 miles to where the snowmobilers really start having fun.

It was even sunny and 60 degs.
Nice ride.

Working on rebuilding my master cylinder in hopes of correcting the spongy front brakes. Rebuild kit, check. Rubber boot off, check. C clip out, check. Washer and master piston out, Houston we have a problem. I cannot get the washer and master piston to come out for anything. Anyone else run into this problem? Have a possible solution? I've soaked it in brake cleaner, WD-40, PB Blaster, all to no avail. I'm tempted to order the aftermarket one on ebay, but would really like to get my bike going sooner than that. Any ideas?

NX250s do not like jumping off steps, for future reference.

DUDE!!! I just put some new brakes on and guess what? Same deal. Spongy as all get out! I tried cleaning the disc, and no go.

All I did was push the pistons back in....????

Wonder if it's the brake pads themselves?

I've got (stupid me) Parts Unlimited. What do you have?

I will replace them ASAP with Honda brakes...


This is weird! My speedo broke...then three others did too. Alright, who's the jinx?

I got EBC Carbon X Pads from bikebandit.com. Once I got into my master cylinder, I could tell why they were spongy. It was all gunked up and barely pushing any fluid. I'm sure once I get it rebuilt or get a new once, they'll have no problem throwing me over the handlebars. I doubt its your pads. Gotta push the piston in to replace them, could have gotten some air in the system. If you've bled them and are in the same situation, you probably have the same problem I do. Though I did read something about old brake lines swelling...

My speedo was broke when I got my bike. Previous owner had replaced the cable, but the plastic gear had stripped out. Quick and easy fix. I'm guessing the cable gets tight or locks up and causes all the teeth on the gear to shear. Seeing that it's only plastic wouldn't take much. Only thing I can think of that would cause it.

spongy brake feel =
dirty brake oil
worn pads
warped discs

but most likely
bubbly brake oil or old swelling brake lines

Maybe mine didn't like the regurgitation it got from me pushing the pistons back in?

As soon as I grabbed the brake, it was flat...I had to pump it like I was bleeding it.


Gonna do a fluid replacement ASAP to.

That most definitely sounds like there might be air in there to me.
Give it a good through bleed, and be generous with the fluid, make sure you cycle all the bad stuff out and thensome for cleaning.
I would not stop til the fluid in the master looks as clean as it did when it came out of the bottle. Also shake and vibrate (kinda like short quick grabs) the brake handle a bit to release bubbles that might float right up to the valve. Bleeding from bottom up solves this but is less convenient to do and could be messier too.

The other guys have waaaay more experience with this then me.
They will chime in I am sure.

Yes, anytime you push the piston back into the caliper your brakes do not like it. A better and easier way to do it is to open the bleeder valve and then push the piston back into the caliper, it will flush the fluid as well as make pushing the piston in very, very, easy. Your pads will not give you a squishy feel or your rotor even if warped, all warped does is give you a vibration.

Replace the old rubber squishy hoses that expand with pressure rather then transfer the pressure to the pad as well as bleed the air out of your lines to get rid of squishy brakes.

Looks like there are some things missing from this bike?

yeah, the stock airbox had to be ditched to run that GSXR750 shock, replaced with a pod filter. the airbox lid got ziptied to the framerails, and I had to make a mudguard/battery tray in the process
