OK- I decided to start another thread- because I think it will get some amount of traffic.

I'd like to grab the reigns here and set up a bike transport expediter for the racers.

For everyone who is not from SoCal..

There are 3 parts to this whole adventure.

    1. Getting Bike and gear and yourself there
    2. Doing the Race
    3. Getting Bike and gear and yourself back

Part 1 and 2 are as much of a pain in the rear as anything else.

If there could be an expediter set up to collect bikes in a couple of strategic locations in the USA and pack them in a container and deliver to Mexicali. Then racers can fly Southwest Air into San Diego, and then Fly back out of Cabo.

Then at the end- Pack the bikes up in Cabo and send them to the USA.

Racers are responsible for getting bike to and from USA based transport hub.

I have 3 warehouse locations capable of accepting bikes and gear to consolidate for a load. (NEW HAMPSHIRE, TEXAS, L.A.)

I have at least 5 bikes coming out of TEXAS.

I can get my logistics team to come up with costs for a 20' and 40' container. Price would just be a split between however many bikes we get in there and back.

Anyone else need this kind of assistance OR could help set this up?

Someone already doing this so I don't have to re-invent the wheel?

Well, let me thro my hat in. Interested and have been trying to figure things out. We drove all the way from CT last year but not sure I will have the time to do that this year. Have been talking with a few people in New England but dont have any firm plan yet.

If you get more details out of NH would be very interested in hearing about it.

The bike is getting ready and like you said that's not always the hardest part.

You might want to give Mr. Pearlman a call. There might be riders that are not on ADV that need transport help.

I talked to him at the offroad expo. There was a video that was playing in the background of last years race. I pointed you out to him when your pic popped up.

I'll see if he can maybe get us some info to help each other out. Maybe he can do a press release on the NORRA site that addresses this (BIKE TRANSPORT).

It can only help! The easier he makes it for people to do the race in terms of logistics, the better. Seems like we have a group here that has been there and done that, AND is willing to help.

    This is a great idea.
Thinking of doing the M1000, and this would definitely help.

I also have a friend with a semi.. I'm going to run this by him.

Here is what I got for truckloads to CALEXICO Warehouse on the border of Mexico Mexicalli

I have 3 warehouses in the USA.

    NEW HAMPSHIRE TO CALEXICO = $2400 +/-

    AUSTIN TEXAS TO CALEXICO = $1000 +/-

    LOS ANGELES TO CALEXICO= $ 700 +/-

These are full truckloads. So we would own the entire load. Not sure how many bikes you can fit in a 53' Tractor trailer, but I think it would be ALOT!

Price is split between how many riders pack their stuff in the trailer.

So far we have 6 bikes coming out of TEXAS. So that is about $166+/- each. More bikes, less $ for each rider.

Still trying to get quotes coming north out of Cabo. Anyone have a contact?

    Might I suggest...<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
    - Ship the bikes and stuff (wheels, parts, cooler, loading ramp, tie downs, etc) to San Diego, east county if possible.<o:p></o:p>
    - Fly into San Diego.<o:p></o:p>
    - Rent a truck or van from CaBaja.com (rentals legal and insured to be taken to Baja).
    - Drive to the nearest used tire shop and get an extra spare truck/van tire/wheel (it's Baja, just sayin').
    - Drive short distance to where the bikes were shipped.<o:p></o:p>
    - Load crap and head to Baja.<o:p></o:p>
    - After the race drive back to San Diego, repack at shipper, return truck, fly home.<o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
Or, if you do not want to take a support truck all the way to Cabo and you do not want to rent a race bike or support from Baja Bound Moto then...<o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
    - Ship bikes and stuff to San Diego, north county if possible.<o:p></o:p>
    - Fly into San Diego on 26th.<o:p></o:p>
    - Get picked up by a BBM van(s) with trailer(s) loaded with bikes & crap and be transported to Mexicali.<o:p></o:p>
    - From there go with whatever plans you made with others for support.<o:p></o:p>
    - Vans w/ trailers could either go straight to Cabo and wait to haul all the stuff back to San Diego & shipping place or they can go to each night stop with your stuff. All depends on what people want.<o:p></o:p>
Or vans w/ trailers can be done on the 26th and back to San Diego and you guys make other plan to get bikes & crap back north to Diego.<o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
Seems pretty simple. No need to re-invent the wheel.

23 to 29 bikes will fit in a 40' container depending on the vintage/modern ratio.

Before Mark V, Joe B and Dana J graciously offered for me to tag along with them last year I was going to race it solo males moto style, fly back to Vegas in time to do the Silverstate 300 on my 450, then come back down after to pick up my big bike. I was in touch with lopez cinco freights and they were willing to get stuff to Mexicali or TJ.. the gal speaks english well too.

I strongly support BBM's suggestions for one simple reason. IF you have a terminal failure (aka DNF) you would not be stranded in the middle of Baja with no way to get you or your bike to Cabo for the trip home.

Just say'n. We won over all the first 2 years and we were out of the race in San Flippy last year. DNF happens even to BBM!!!

I sent a PM to you. Let's hash this out. I think I could get a dozen racers to come down, knowing that the logistics are taken care of. This is great news.

    Cheers-

Thank you! Looks like there are some solid leads. Only 150 more days until the flag drops. Hope all is well in Cali.

    Completely!
We (me) won OA bike '10 then "we" won 1st & 2nd OA bikes (plus another class win and another finish, 4 for 4, but who's counting:wink:) in '11.
Then in '12 I go Moto Malles style from my home on my bike and break before BofLA.
Kinda sucks not having a plan for "what if".

I'm gonna work on some ideas with Maineroot. If it pans out he'll let you all know here.
