I think you are seeing reflections. There are not any wear marks on the tank.

Interesting 'elephant ears' on that setup, any idea whether that blocks the holes in the tank enough to affect the cooling? I remember whenever I was stopped at lights on my 640 adv and the fan kicked in I could feel the blast of hot air on my knee...

I need to find out the diameter of the header pipe as it enters the muffler connection for a 2003-04 640 Motard/Adventure or 2005 or 2007 625 Adventure. I don't have one in my possession to measure myself. TIA.

Skibum69, I'm looking for the OD of the header. I'm thinking of adapting a Staintune made for the referenced KTMs to a Tenere. I don't have access to the needed info via Staintune. TIA for any help you can give.

I have an '04 625 SMC in parts in my storage unit. I'll try to remember to measure and snap a pic for you, this afternoon.

Hey John, I totally forgot you as I was working on putting the motor back together on mine for the first time in months. Not sure when I'll be back at it, pesky work is getting in my way.

Thanks skibum69 and TDReyer for your efforts -- The USA distributor responded that the Staintune inlet ID was 50mm. So, I think the Staintune for the KTM Motard will work with an adapter since the header diameter on the Super Tenere is only 44 mm as it comes out of the cat.

I never liked the design for the reason you stated.
That said I met a German guy and his wife traveling RTW two up in Mongolia with that set up.

He went on to ride S. America also, all two up. Don't believe he had any machine problems except the usual. He left Europe with a new motorcycle.

Here is what I got; at the very end of the header it measures 1.992"
Then up to the widest point of the flange it measures 2.092

    Hope this helps.

    Tim,

Thanks for taking the time to take measurements and picture. That really seals the deal. The Staintune will require an adapter to go from 44mm on the Tenere to 50mm but the Staintune should tuck in and mount up just fine.

Here's what the Super Tenere sounds like with a Staintune:

    Thanks again,

Can do. I still have my 2006 KTM 950 Adv. So I'm sort of a part of this community.
