Meant to post up the specs last night, but slipped my mind. Here is a little overall drawing of the hook. Andrew
Couldn't you just drill a small hole in the free end of the hook to slip a small padlock through? No, it wouldn't stop someone who was determined to walk off with your lid, but it would be a deterent. And in that case, I would substitute a small metal hose clamp for one of the three zip ties as well. Maybe for the center slot position... Just my thoughts... ----- The other solution would be to get one of those 1/8" diameter nylon covered cables that are sold and loop it through the chin bar and around the fork or frame and then lock it. I have one that I can run through the sleeve of my riding jacket for leaving on the bike like that.
I'm going to look into adding a through hole on the part to toss a little lock on there. The original concept with the Helmet-Hook was to make holding\securing the helmet extremely quick, convenient, and easy. Locking the helmet to the bike was on the lower end of the priority list, but hey I'm always up for modifying\improving things. I'll see what it takes to do before I run some more parts. Also, all future orders will come with some new stickers. I'll see if I can get some out to those of you who have already ordered. Thanks again everyone! Andrew
I hope everyone is out enjoying the great weather we've been having. I got to spend a long weekend in the UP with some great riding friends. Helmet-Hooks proved to be a great asset when we stopped on the side of trails for a break. No worrying about if any critters crawled into our helmets on us Also great to not keep our helmets on the hot asphalt when stopped in for lunch, or while filling up with fuel in town. I've also found some better zip-ties for the hooks. They are a bit less bulky than the previous ones I had. The last ones were rated at 150# each, so just a bit over-kill for the situation. Andrew
So this is mainly for dirt bikes. I think my friend would have a fit if his helmet came in contact with his purdy new Concours.......He's funny that way.
Its for any bike......but the owner cant be a sissy apparently. Ive got one on my .......wait for it....... choppa. .....then again I dont give a dead mooses last shit if my helmet touches my bike. Hell I gots one on my ATV.......and I may put one on my John Deere mower - ATGATT mowing.....yeah!
My original intent was for dual sport bikes. Though my dad tossed one on his road bike, I keep them on my race bike, my trials bike, and when the time comes for me to get another road bike, it'll get one too. When it came down to it, I just wanted a reliable place I could set my helmet. Mirrors were always floppy, footpegs were coated in mud, and who doesn't love hearing the thwack of their helmet fall off their seat? aaronrkelly, I dig the Black\Red combo there! Andrew
Yep, same problem I HAD. I kept dropping my brand new helmet and it hurts in my SOUL when that happens Good job on making the hook though. George
It's come to my attention that there is another Helmet-Hook available on this site. Very cool to see more options for bike parts out there. The name sounds oddly similar to my part, but what yah gonna do. I read of there being concerns about the strength of the Helmet-Hooks not "holding their weight" so to speak. Whether the concern is Cable Ties holding the hook on your bike, or if it's the fact that the Helmet-Hook is made out of plastic. All very valid concerns, so allow me to help with giving you some info. Quick Background, I work in the Injection Mold industry. I have been making molds for 10+ years, and have been designing molded parts for 5+ years. I've dealt with just about everything under the sun when it comes to Injection Molds, Machining, and Plastics. I took more time than I should have to design the Helmet-Hook, but that's life & product design. I CNC'd many prototypes before I settled on the final design. At which point I manufactured the Injection Mold. I ran the mold on our Arburg molding machines and have been more than thrilled with how everything came out. I chose Nylon 6/6 as the material of choice for the Helmet-Hook. Keys to me were that it must not bend under the weight of the helmet and it MUST not get brittle in the cold. While there were a few other choices out there, Nylon was the best fit, especially with it's ability to take to color additives so well. Fixturing to the bike, I chose Cable Ties. I know many may think "How can you trust your 500$ helmet to lowly Cable Ties!!", well quite honestly each Cable Tie included is rated at holding 50# of weight. The Helmet-Hook includes 3 of these Cable Ties. If your helmet manages to break one of these Cable Ties when you put it on there, contact me and I'll send out some fresh zip-ties to you. If you don't want to use Cable Ties, there are some phenomenal 3M double sided tape options (think GoPro mounts) available that will hold your helmet, and probably an elephant too. If you have any suggestions for changes to the Helmet-Hook, let me know. The current design is good, there is ALWAYS room for improvement. If you have any questions, let me know. Until then, Happy Roosting! Andrew @ Helmet-Hook
I'm the one with the other hook and yes, the name is close to yours or rather, the same but without the hyphen but really, what would I call it? Also, I had no idea about your hook until someone else pointed it out to me. Luckily, the designs have nothing in common. I was also toying with the idea to put a helmet on a helmet hook logo but since I see that you now added it to yours, I'll obviously refrain. Good luck with the sales. George
