An old team I was on, had a Russian guy who rode everywhere, any weather, around Denver Colorado. He used a larger pair of shoes in cold weather, so he could wear thick wool hiking socks. From what I could manage to understand his feet never got cold.
I had been complaining about my feet being numb from the cold on a ride.
He was quite the character too.

You need an insulated, cycling boot. Take a look here and here.

I wear booties but I like the idea of the chemical warmers. I'll get some of those and try them.

    Def not too warm :D

Thanks, I'll take a look at those.

Could also be that the core of your body isn't warm enough. :dunno FWI've experienced, once I start to get chilly, the rest of me follows quickly. The core stays warm enough, hands and feet are never a problem.

    :dunno

I'm no AKDuc, but I do ride outside pretty much year round

It could be that your shoes are fastened too tightly now that you're wearing thicker socks and restricting the blood flow. Try loosening the straps a bit and see if that helps.

I use plastic wrap over socks ,it's thin and keeps air off the toes. I've got huge feet and I wear mt bike shoes,so booties are hard to get on .

Great advice - I don't think they are too tight but I will try them a little looser to see if that's the issue.

    Might try this one too...

    Thanks :thumb

Gore Tex socks are somewhat breathable and LOTs more expensive. ...and highly recommended for mtn biking.

I ever tell y'all the 'ice covered mud puddle' story? If I haven't, the short short version is 'Gore Tex socks rawk.'

Thanks Yeti. Note to self: store Saran Wrap in back of car with mtb shoes, helmet, and gloves.

Nah, just cram Wal-Mart bags in a corner. That's what I use.

That crinkling sound will drive me nuts. Leaves caught betwixt the tires and frame are bad enough.:deal:D

Some good video footage of the state championship I was at a couple of weeks ago.

Went mtn biking at CAMBO today. Didn't particularly feel like going, but my buddy guilt-tripped me into it. It was ~45 and blustery, so road was pretty much right out. :nod

Actually had a pretty good ride considering how I was feeling when we left his house (in the car). First few hills kicked my rear end, but then again, the first few hills ALWAYS kick my rear end. :nod (and the next one, and the next one... in short, they ALL kick my rear end)

7-ish miles of looping about in the woods. :ricky

Got to thinking about DS and/or 29ers watching my buddy on the DS Epic 29er riding away from me on all the little 1" dia or smaller roots that jolted me around. One the one hand, I don't ride the mtn bike often enough to justify the $. On the other, a little equipment help would make up for my lack of mtn biking... :augie. We'll see what the new year brings.
