Been lurking for a while......thanks for sharing the photos....they remind me why I love that part of the country so much.

Utah----one of my favorite states.

It would be very hard to take me somewhere in Utah I haven't been.
When I was young I rode my dirt bike on all the nastiest trails they have.

Now--------- I tend to go the the more out of the way places---some I never, ever here anybody talk about.
Places where there may not be anybody---and is seldom visited.

Desolation Canyon is one of my favorites---a long beautiful ride down a dead end road.

On my way to the canyon I saw this as I traveled.
I was afraid to park my bike to close to this rock.






At Desolation Canyon I found these old dwellings.







Dragon, Utah---------------population -----"ME".






Used to be a railroad---and hotel.



And a store and gas station.



Here is downtown Rainbow---nothing at all left-------population-----"Me".



Watson, Utah------a sprawling metropolis Nothing left---population---"Me".




OH yes---I did find these 2 old buildings.



Fantasy Canyon is way on top of my favorite places in Utah-----I accidentally found this place while
wandering around some dirt roads. This place is way off the touristy routes.

Never saw rocks looking like that before---it was down a dead end dirt road that may be
impassable if it was wet.

On the way out I saw this sign---I'll never forget this sign and just couldn't figure it out.

But----my absolutely favorite ride I did in Utah by far----was the ride me and my old
buddy Kenny Gibbons did many years ago------Kenny's gone now---man I miss that guy.
We started in Moab and rode to the Grand Canyon--and back.

We got permission from the BLM to ride right down the Paria river bed.
We were warned that if it came a hard rain while we were in there that we would
drown in there as there is no escape.
We rode for miles with a little fear in our gut.
I don't think it is legal to ride in here anymore.
Maybe that's what makes it so special.

We found the trail down into the canyon near Cannonville, Utah.
Sorry the pictures are so small---------this was back in dial-up internet days and it was
forbidden to post big pictures.




It was 32° and we were freezing.








The next day I was stuck in the snow.

He wanted an extended ride on the little ninja before leaving for the Bay Area in a week- Bike held up fine

I just finished up a 2500+ mile ride AWESOME southern Utah is very magical.















I need to do a RR sometime. I want to go back again only on a smaller bike DRZ would be perfect for some of the places I want to go.








Utah is breathtaking for sure....

Looks like you went WAY south to find the dugway-

Ive kinda thought about a smaller bike as well for much of the backcountry, but it's nice to have the bigger bike to get there . Tough trade.

Beautiful Memorial Day-
Went out through Golden Spike Monument to the (partially submerged) spiral jetty- 100 mils of pavement, 30 miles of dirt and gravel

they had the trains out

Has rained the last couple days (even snow down to about 7500 ft)- kept the dust to a minimum, made some of the clay tacky


Some flocks of pelicans near the lake (look close), didnt change the camera settings

Signal, my wife and I enjoyed meeting you at Hurrah Pass a couple of weeks ago. You look younger in person. Me, not so much. Your thread has helped me with my trip planning. Thanks, David

David, very glad you jumped in here - I must confess I'd miss remembered your user name, and hoped to catch up or stumble on a ride report. I hope the rest of the trip went as well.

For those who dont recognize the area, David is at the top of Hurrah Pass- where he rode (impressively, I should add) two up with his agreeable wife. Both sons were really jealous (of the bike not the wife ).


The only other inmate we ran into while down there was Bret Edge- his photo gallery is next to the hotel we haunted-
Bret was very pleasant, nice guy. His photograph prints are spectacular.

Tried a little variety this AM.
I have a couple patients that have muscular dystrophy (have had a few more over the years). The MDA locally does a annual big Harley parade out to Wendover NV- essentially 180 or so miles in a straight line . It does raise a ton of cash.
This year I promised (sort of) to at least show up. I had initially planned to ride out on the pony express trail, but that was nixed for a couple reasons (time and heat).

Anyway (as I hadnt signed up, I was told to go early) Left at 7AM- was way too early . Oddly, as the lot filled in, the GS remained really lonely.


I was there to watch the various local Five-O pull in


This West Valley LEO got the job of alignment- he later came over and said nice things about the GS and wanting one (he currently is rocking a KLR ). I offered to trade him rides for the day-- He briefly pondered the idea.

The lot started filling in. Lots of colors and vests-


I bugged out about 45 min before the circus left town, went east for the hills

East Canyon was cool, green and beautiful on the way home

My wife has charcot marie tooth (CMT) a non-fatal form of MD. We're lucky to have decent medical ins. but MDA helps lots of folks that don't...we still go to their clinics and she gets leg braces through them, of course since we have ins it gets billed so the money raised can help those that don't and go to research etc. Harley is one of the big fund raisers for 'em.
