OK so in two weeks me and my other half will be heading off on a little jaunt to take in northern america and southern Canada. plotted stops in order are: 26 June Niagara Falls Ontario 27 Port Huron northern Michigan 2-3 July Chicago 4 July Green Bay 5 July St Ignace 6 July Sudbury 7 July Ottawa This is all fairly relaxed with rotation being 2 nights in camp and 1 in a motel the big weekend in Chicago is gonna be fun. I'm looking for some riding partners and good chat/company along the way. I'm English and She's from Boston both of us work in the Washington DC area. so any of you likely lads got any advice or fancy tagging along?
Sounds like a good trip. Sudbury to Ottawa - make sure you detour from Hwy 17 at North Bay down to Hwy 60 through Algonquin Park or even further south through the Haliburton Highlands and rejoin Hwy 17 at Renfrew, Ontario. Trust me, you'll be tired of the 17 by then. Too bad you're not in Sudbury Saturday Night - you'd have to listen to the Stompin' Tom Connors tune of the same name to get acquainted!!! I'll be in SoCal when you roll through Ottawa or I'd offer to guide you guys around town. Oh, and make sure to check out Bluesfest when in town...it's the big show in town for a couple of weeks. Have fun, frazman
sounds like a good trip.. cant wait to hear how the 800gs works as a 2-up travelling bike. Have you done any modifications to the bike to be better for 2 people? good luck on your journey
Hi Folks, You are a week ahead of me....I'm leaving MD on 30 Jun for Ottawa, then along the lakes to Sualt Ste Maire, to Thunder Bay, down thru Wisconsin and back to MD via most direct. I'm alone so I guess I could go clockwise and not anticlockwise.... if you wanted to meet up somewhere and ride a ways I'd be game. I'm on an ST 1300 and will be camping and moteling. I must be back by 15 July...otherwise I'm open. Let me know. Joe
Not much in a way of mods, Cheap folding highway pegs on the HB crashbars to let me strech my legs then she can put the feet on my pegs. An Alaskan leather dual sport pad to cover the seat and a Powerbronze screen to reduce head buffet. Shes prettry sorted back there with her music, camelback and trail mix. I just enjoy the road n sights!
joe, Thanks for the offer, our dates are a bit set in stone due to hotel bookings. I will be checking this tread so how about we meet up halfway and give each other tips on the road ahead?
I once took a trip from Toronto and we went up some peninnsula in Ont, and then took a ferry over to Manitoulin Is.....i think.... then looped around into the UP and down thru N mIch.. It was all spectacular country. I saw ur N Mich idea from Pt Huron, you could maybe see more cool stuff.. The East Coas t of Mich along Lk Huron is nowhere near as cool as the North Shore via Ont, then the West side of Mich down into Cross Village, Leelanau, toward Chicago is amazing.. FWIW.. Have fun!!
Jay, After thinking a bit, I'm going to go clockwise around the lakes so you'll be ahead of me it looks like. Have a good trip and just in case...I'm on a black ST 1300 with MD plates. Ride safe and enjoy!! Joe
When you are in St. Ignace, make sure you go over to Mackinac (pronounced mac in naw) Island. You have to take a ferry and no motor vehicles are allowed on the island. Beautiful little resort island full of Victorian mansions, shops, bars, a fort. Very cool place to spend the day. You have to rent a bicycle, horse or carriage to get around.
