Recently picked up my first trials bike. I never would have thought going slow would be such a great workout Ended up with 1.8 bikes, a running 97 Beta Techno 250 and a non running 98 Lampkin Replica. Does anyone have a set of forks for this bike or a likely replacement? Any recommended parts sources? These bikes seem to be in the forgotten past with respect to parts. I've setup a few small obstacles, mainly focused on learning to turn, with the Florida sand it's a bit different with respect to traction.
What better to do with an extra set of tires/rims off your old pick up Remeber this is for erosion control Anyone have any more erosion control suggestions
you of all people should know what to do with the 8/10ths bike I would find some kx100 forks etc etc etc and build an adv monster bush beater out of it or http://www.allensusedtrialsspares.co.uk/#/bikes-breaking/4560010283
I've been beating the bushes for forks but they seem to be rare. Did find a front end off a 05 GG TXT so it should be up n goin after I get the main bearings in! The top end on this bike is shocking, kinda wonder why they put a 5th and 6th gear in it.
Yup, I'm close to getting one too. I can ride trails all day but an hour on a wee bike has me knackered.
Good luck with your search. You have some wonderful terrain on your island where a trials bike would be right at home
kinda wonder why they put a 5th and 6th gear in it. 5 and 6 gear are for riding the loop to get from section to section.
Trials noob does not know this Looking forward to learning more. I did score an entire front end off an 05 GG 300 txt and whole bunch of other stuff. So it's looking like I'll have a betagas!
Why get the second bike ridable? I would save it for parts for the one that does run. There is a 95 beign parted out on E-bay. Looks like the forks have sold. I got the rear fender off it. Yea, parts are not that common compared to a XL350 or the like. I saw the bikes you bout on craigslist. $800 for both? that's a deal you would never find out west.
Yup, I just got myself up to the eyeballs in debt buying a suitable garden with a rocky stream in it. Oh, it comes with a house too, apparently. Should really have bought a bike first....The girlfriend is supportive of my condition, though.
What's better than a second parts bike that you can ride Thanks for the heads up. Did you get the fender supports as well? Wanna sell em or swap for some parts? Thats what he was asking You did the right thing, bikes come n go but a nice place to ride em is priceless
The supports for the rear fender? Beta actualy calls those the sub-frame. No, I do not have spares. I beleive that is one of the parts that changed on the 98-99 and the fender is different too from the older Techno. The prices on the E-bay parts were kind of high so I did not but anything but the fender as my fender is cracked and new fenders are not available. I got my 95 for $1,000 and that was cheap for out here. Most are listed for $2,000 to $1,5000. I love mine, ride it most every day. Best 2T engine I have ever owned. You got a great deal.
Guess I need to verify the years with the vin as I am going off what the seller said! Did you check in Europe? Found a couple of places with them listed as in stock, waiting on email from em. I like it a lot but only have about 10hrs on it. I'm thinking of running some dual stage reeds to get a bit more pop on the low end.
Here's all the Beta Trials models. http://www.americanbeta.com/node/751 The 98-99 have the taillight built into the rear fender and different sub-frame.
That motor needs high octane gas, C-12 works well. The Montesa is the better bike. Or is it a Lamkin replica Beta??
BTTT. I wear a tennis type sweat band on my left wrist. It is great to wipe off sweat if you get the large one. Dale Malesek has been wearing them for 20 years. Yea, who would have thought riding trials makes you sweat.
Anyone have tips for riding loose sugary sand? I'm running realy low tire pressure 3-4psi. Planted the front wheel in the sand and over the bars I go
Thats a personal decision, you can wear whatever you like, but please keep your concern for my safety to yourself Thanks, that what I've been working on. This was the first time over this obstacle and I was very tentative and paid for it. I did make it over 3 more times today with the only traction being on top of the tires. Kind of strange spinning the tire through sugar sand and then getting traction.
