Remember the last time something happened and everybody freaked?

People were selling USED primers and there were instructions on the internet that told you how to "reload" them and make them shootable again.

    Used AR15 magazines were $65 a piece.

High cap Glock mags were $95.

When the idiotic AWB sunsetted, 17 round G17 mags wholesaled for $10.48 and brand new, marked, AR15 30 rounders could be had for $8.

We truly live in interesting times.

Any of you guys cast your own bullets?

I've got more then 100 pounds(two 5gal buckets) of these I'm not going to use.

Some are alloyed with linotype, some with wheel weights, and a few pure lead.

    PM me if interested.

Lead going for about a buck a pound. It's the shipping that'll kill ya. :D

Grandpa use to cast his handgun bullets; you need a Brinell hardness of 15-17 (unless ur gonna copper coat 'em.)

BTW: Don't breath the fumes when you melt it down. :D

I didn't have a hardness tester but the linotype alloy was going over 1000 fps in my 45LC Blackhawk with no barrel leading. :evil

Gas-cutting is generally caused by bullets that are too small or a chamber throat that is bigger than the cylinder allowing gas to get by the bullet and "cut" the lead making it soft around the base. If everything fits correctly, you can easily push 15 bn lead to 1200 or better. I used to push gas checked 200 grain lead in my IHMSA gun to 1800 fps with no leading.

That was my biggest concern.........next to handling it. But then again, am I really worried about lead poisoning at my age.

Maybe I should just stick with copper jacket.:D

Melt and cast outside with either a breeze or a low powered fan blowing the smoke away from you.

    You will get hot.

The worst thing that you can do is let a drop of sweat fall into the molten lead.

    IT WILL EXPLODE ! ! !

I never wore gloves (but would now) and I have the scars to demonstrate.

Wear glasses and a long sleeve, cotton, tee shirt. Absolutely NO synthetics - if the lead splatters and hits polyester, it will melt into your skin. Tends to be a skosh painful.

Take your time and have absolutely NO distractions.
