OBCDR ride next summer

That's what the info I've seen and heard suggests too, but they were both saying the sticker is needed, and the cert card prob is too since they changed the rules.
I don't have any desire to get hassled by an officer due to and bad day or the lackanookie he's having, and I sure as hell don't like taking tests, especially when most all of it doesn't pertain to me, AND when it seems like it's just a requirement because a state employed red tape specialist says so.

I guess this is just a whining rant with way too much typing going on.

I remember one of you saying you have a gps60st(Jim, right?) but don't remember the other one? Anyone running a rhino? Do they talk with cobra frs raijoes? Wondering if we should consider talking a radio?

End of August? Hot and dry. I would expect temps in the 90's, but be ready for a full range of possible weather conditions.

I read a few sites where people were talking about taking radios and they all ended up not using them at all. We're not going to have a lot of people on this ride so we should all stay pretty close together.

90's isn't bad as long as you're moving. Trail riding I'd sweat my balls off, but this ride we're going to be moving along pretty good so that shouldn't be a problem.

So would you suggest using a dual sport type ventilated jacket (even has removable arms) or a pressure suit with a jersey?

The tests by the way will tell you what you got wrong, make you wait a few minutes, then you can take the section over.

Yep. I have a Garmin 62ST.

For my trip up the ORBDR I am bringing my fly terra trekker jacket. Armor, vents and waterproof. Similar to the jacket I used in the WABDR. It will be a little warm at slower speeds, but will take care of me if the temp drops or the skys open up.
IMHO you can always take layers off, just make sure that you start with all the layers you are going to need.

Thanks. Yeah my AXO jacket is similar but not waterproof nor does it have a liner for Winter. It's a good 3 season jacket more geared towards Summer. I think it'd be more comfortable than a pressure suit, though less protection.

So I'm going to be needing a rear tire before this, recommendation for that 18" on the DR350? It has a Country Boy(never heard of it before) DS tire on it now, my meager opinion is that it is lacking in gravel stability and mud traction of course, but the hiway behavior is fantastic. I'd prefer something a small bit better for gravel, and maybe longer wearing.

Sure it doesn't say Golden Boy? If so, that's a Shenko 244 which is not a bad tire. I like the Michelin T63's, but when my rear wears out, I think I'm going with a Dunlop D606. Pretty standard DOT knobby and wears good on the street.

You guys care to share packing lists? What luggage are you going to use?

I'm probably not going to have a good packing list until probably the weekend before... I do have everything I'll need so there isn't anything I'll need to get prior. I posted a preliminary list a few pages ago.

What I'm using for luggage is a Giant Loop Coyote saddle bag, dry bag and Diablo tank bag. I want to travel fairly light.

You guys that are liking the camelback systems, are we going to be riding without stops enough that on-the-go water is needed? I'd sure prefer grabbing a drink during a stop for fuel or pics instead. Actually, I've been thinking of using my old saddle horn panniers for the gas tank and keep a water bottle there where it's handy.

I don't have a full packing list yet either. I'll try to post what I do have sometime this week when I get a few minutes.

I will be taking some level of water with me as well as a filtering system. I would approach it assuming that in the high desert areas, that time of year, there will be some good stretches without readily accessible water. And if something happens (bike breaks down, flat tire, etc) you may be in an area without much water or shade...

Just my two cents.

I plan on taking a bladder type system as well. No reason we can't stop, but if nobody brought them, it may make for a lot of stops.... It's good to get off the bike from time-to-time and give the backside some rest. Not sure I'd recommend taking a hand off the bars for any stretch of time to drink.

No need for me to stop more than the fueling or other normal breaks the group wants. I sure don't need enough drinks to slow the progress.

Went over the OBDR maps I have for a while last night, some while I was following along with GE. I noticed Rt4 goes right through my old bowhunting grounds above Mitchell. Nice country there for sure. Found a couple errors on the maps, nothing significant. Mostly I wanted to understand how the maps and data are laid out. Missed the connection to 2 and 4 since I don't have Rt2 yet.
