When I was a kid,our parents put us on the Amtrak to go to the next stop about sixty miles away.

They raced the train in their Oldsmobile to pick us up and bring us to the grandparent's a little North of there.

    It was a great experience.

My uncle was the manager of the Twin Cinema and got us in to see the new release, Silver Streak.

Thrilling movie after my first train ride.

Someone mentioned the three Chinese steamers that were brought into the us in the 80s. One of these ended up at the Knox, Kane and Kinzua tourist railroad that ran from Marienville, PA up to Kane. The main draw of the trip was that the train went across the Kinzua viaduct, which was hit by a (I shit you not) tornado a few years ago.. The viaduct had a whole section topple over and the railroad stopped running last year. The rolling stock and locomotives are still sitting in Kane the last I heard. I'm sure someone will buy that chinese steam locomotive. Random trivia.. there was originally 4 locomotives in the shipment to the U.S. There was a storm during transit and one of the locos was tossed overboard to save the ship.

I've got a bunch of unassembled HO kits from Fine Scale Miniatures, various and sundry car kits, and a brass Westside Models D&RGW C-16 HOn3 Consolidation sitting in my garage in boxes. When I move I doubt I'll have a "small" 20' x 15' space but with narrow guage I'll have some flexibility.

Yup, that Fraser River. I've been through there 6 times in a pickup, sunny all six. I went through there last summer on my Wing, in a downpour. :bluduh

It's a great ride. I haven't done it for many years as most of my recent trips have been on the Coquihalla. I'll have to make a detour for the next one.
