wow I've seen some deals on these, Im not much of a sport bike guy but some with pro sport bars, hhhmmm
any odd ball stuff not mentioned in this thread to watch for?

Some reported speedmeter mood swings which relates to the routing and kinking of the speedometer cable.

Relays have to be changed too.

Apart from that, pretty basic bike which I consider to be one of its strengths.

Long story short, I had been looking/drooling for one for a bit, found one in Tennessee last Spring, flew down and spent a week riding it home. Bike has been rock solid... is a ball to ride and at 22,000 miles all of the mentioned quirks have been addressed.

I've probably offered a bunch on this thread before but will freshen it up. I bought an '01 Sport new in Dec '01. As the bike progressed to the Lemans, it got less and less problem plagued. Really only sold it because my 50 yr hockey knees could not take the sitting position any more. Here's my entry from a long while back:

I bought an '01 V11 Sport new in 2001. Fell in love with the looks of the thing. Many happy years of ownership, the first few dealing with 'nigglies' that the factory should have seen to before it was delivered [under rated Seimens relays, fracture prone aluminium oil cooler brackets, lack of grease to the wheel output sprocket, incorrect setting of fuel tank causing fracture of side covers, poor routing of fuel lines causing superheating of fuel in lines causing hot running starting issues, under-engineered speedo/gearbox output shaft failing, tamperproof ignition switch bolts falling out, significant vibes through the handlebars at 3500 rpm],,,,,,,,,,,,,BUT, you've got that lovely old lump of an engine which at it's core is as reliable as a stone axe, and it has bags of character.
Alas, after 10 yrs of ownership and 50,000kms, I sold the bike last week to an enthusiast who understands what it is with a Moto Guzzi. It was more a fact that as I enter my 52nd year, with years og playing hockey, my knees just cannot take the sitting position any more, rendering the bike as a town bike for me, formerly an optional touring machine. Problem is, I've got 4 other exceedingly cool 'town bikes' , all with very cheap insurance with collector status. The Guzzi's status has and will continue to become little used.
I will buy another Moto Guzzi, an older one, a V700 or an Eldo, something like that. The core of all these bikes is the engine, that's really what it's all about for me,,,,,,these twins have a soul that no ther v-twin can match for many ways.

The later ITI gauges were just as failure prone as the earlier Veglias.
The early models had significant issues with the speedo drive gearbox output bevel flying apart, post '02, much better design.

Every time one shows up locally in good shape that is reasonably priced, I am broke. Then when I get some play money, nothing is to be had. Eventually the two will over lap & I will get one.

thanks for your replies all, Steve I understand on the riding position, I have seen the relocation kit for foot pegs and later models with pro tapers, both would help me. My guzzi quota had the speedo once go wacko in a major downpour, just for about 20 min then went back to normal. odd thing is my weestrom on same trip died also and came back. buddy was riding it we were around squamish coming back from lap around carpenter lake.

my quota also had the speedo 90 bevel go out, only 2 problems since new. seems Italians do not worry to much about speedos so I don't either.

Just pinched a ride on a 2014 1200 monster at skagit power sports OMFG !!! what a ride !!! too cramped and radical for me but wow, what fun !! wheelie machine...

Holy crap! I got a 10 minute ride on that new Monster at Skagit Wednesday. Not the biggest Ducati fan [two terminal engine failures with both my Ducati ownership attempts] but holy shite does that thing loft the front end easy! Face aches from grinning!!!
