Yep, washing the bike is soooo over rated. Tossed on some new crash bars today. Rumbux integrated crash bars and skid plate. Hell for stout! The skid plate is mounted to the crash bar, so no worries about the sump or engine mounts.

Said to be ~25 lbs. I just tossed a set on the shipping scale and it weighs 23 lbs, 15 ounces. That's with all the hardware, instructions and wrapped in a lot of packing foam.


I imported 5 sets from SA and will be placing another order in a couple of weeks.

Those Rumbux guards are really cool. I wonder how expensive would be to import a set into Europe

I always thought it was to scoop the air through the radiator and protect it from stones thrown up by the front wheel.

Here I thought it was one last hit with the BMW Ugly Stick.

I have a very "anal" friend who seems to remember everything BMW and he said something like this....

The beak is but a fashion item (unless you are actually running off road without the standard guard) that was used in the Dakar as a mud guard that was out of the way of the knobbie tyres and rocks that can foul a standard Design rule compliant guard, but it does help get more air into the oil cooler at slow speeds (and bugs and seeds and leaves) that will try and prevent the motor melting on hot days.

It is also just a rip off of the Dr Big front end. It's the shape that does all the "sensible" stuff.

Older ones just had a high plastic guard like a standard Suzuki dirt bike.

Maybe like this one? ... I bought a high fender of a Yamaha dirt bike (Part # 5RM-F1511-20) and will make a support to brace both front shock columns to bolt the fender ... not necessary to remove the 'duck beak' ... lol

Actually, The two of then together are starting to look better.

The short one just look "daffy duck" and the thin plastic just looks weak, but the combo is starting to look functional and strong. Heading in the right direction.

I am still not a beak fan, so don't get upset with my lack of excitement.

Since you or someone you know is such a whizz with fibre you could just beln the two together and fill up the gap in the angle ....never mind I'll do a photochop and get back to you

The duck beak is fixed to the OEM guard ... the long beak will be fixed to the front shocks so it will move with the front wheel ... they wont work together ...

Are you sure with the suspension fully compressed that it won't bottom out on your lower beak?
