If anyone can speak for this gear, I'd like to hear how it fares...seems like a good alternative to klim gear.
I'm interested too. Start by watching this video review : http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=e7glD14OaU4 And the reviews on Revzilla.com
Just purchased the Patrol jacket in all black from Motosport, arrives tomorrow so I cant report on it yet. MS matched the lowest price I could find online, $370 and as usual no tax or shipping. Looking forward to testing it out. The ICON riding team is wearing the Raiden gear in thier upcoming Paris to Dakar flick, looks like it could be ADV favorite if they ride as good as thier thier bikes look. The Tiger with the paddle tire is something else. Details about the flick are on the Icon website.
So you've seen this video? ICONs Portland to Dakar Adventure - Ride a Triumph Totally sick riding, and it looks like the gear is holding up fairly well, as far as the waterproof question. I'm thinking of getting as an alternative to KLIM gear...but have never owned any ICON gear. Please keep us posted on your impressions, thanks!
That video was awesome...and a great marketing idea from Icon. Seems like it might be some decent gear with the exception of all the logos.
The stock suit doesn't have all these logos. If you google "Icon Patrol" you see the different models. Speaking of this suit, I REALLY love the cut and fit (this hood is great), perfect oversuit IMO. It looks close to snowmobile gear. Didn't buy it though, and glad I've chosen the Klim stuff. Durability doesn't seem too good on this (I've read several reviews where the suit broke apart after one year). Wouldn't waste so much money on this kind of this, better go with Rukka or Klim, if it's more expensive, it's for a reason...
It's styled nicely but the venting sucks and it is not as abrasion resistant as the competition nor does it have an as adjustable fit. It is not even close to Klim, Olympia, etc. I would compare it to Tourmaster or Joe Rocket. Check out the Olympia AST, it has better venting, uses Cordura for better abrasion protection and has Thinsulate liner and more adjustable fit, all for about the same amount of money.
I considered an Olympia MotoX, but a shell that's not waterproof and only the liner? What's that about. Side-stepped that purchase. Those Olympia jackets look like a good build, but I wouldn't want to be caught in a storm with it. Icon did a nice job of styling, but it ends there.
I wear Olympia and its great stuff. Yes, you have to wear the liner for it to be waterproof but it breathes really well. I live in the Deep South so staying cool takes precedent. If I lived in a cooler climate I would definitely go Goretex.
ADVMoto Magazine just received a couple of these to play around with. From first impressions, the jacket has a nice fit and some neat features. Once we have some time with them, I will report back with what we found.
I just received the Raiden pants today. Will try them tomorrow. My friend has the whole day glo patrol suit. We rode six hours in the pouring rain and he was dry.
Ive had a raiden for about two weeks.....no problem yet. No rain either.... It fits me big shoulders small waist better than my firstgear......
Great information, how about comfort when riding, any issues? I'm going to search youtube for any video leads...keep riding in the gear and give us the details, thanks!
