Aussie 950/990 Owners Thread

Just removed one disc and caliper. SE950 mastercyclinder(better feel) and good to go.
Makes the bike lighter...suspension reacts better and pops better monos ;-)

Doesn't quite pull up on bitumen like the twin setup...but I double the GF with sport rubber on and just have to use the rear brake a bit more.
Tis still more than powerful on the dirt.

Not sure what ya mean about the forks???

I wonder if you can get an adaptor to put the 640ADv Disc on the 950Adv.....

I doubt the single standard disc will be strong enough on the tar..... maybe with a bitey set of front brake pads....

I am looking at doing this myself. - do you have the part number for the SE master cyclinder??????

Done a heap of 2-up with this setup....cant do stoppies but couldn't do them with the twin setup either ;-)

Could give you the usual "FIGJAM" and how fast I ride...but you wont know if you like it till you try. Mate has done the same thing on his 04 and he wants more stopping power and for me its fine. We both ride the same speed solo and 2 up.

Cheers mate - I will order one of these and maybe an oversized disc. I can't quite rake up the bucks for the full oversized disc and caliper like Rory did - ($960 plus postage.)..

That is a 990, yes? I see 990 on the side panel. The forks look a different colour to mine, 07 990, so I thought you had done more serious alterations.

my knowledge is now a bit rusty and i've not been tracking this thread but i'm pretty sure thats the way they set up the original single disc race bikes.

i also believe that the stopping factor is fine, I recollect reading a technical paper on diameter and the effect on breaking that somewhat concluded you don't need much of an increase in diameter to overcome a second disc.

I've always wanted to go to a single disc as the only flaw i think of the adv is its too biased forwards (which can be a blessing if you're in the hills)

afaik the se uses the same frame basically so the only real differences has to be in the upper fairing headlight switchgear stuff and the disc setup... my one ride ont he SE highlighted the fact its a lot better balanced for my liking.

like i said this is old knowledge and will need verification.

I will try the SE mastercyclinder first. then look at over sized disc if I believe I need it.. I think I will.

I would be interested in a 320mm disc, caliper and caliper carrier... what can your contact do!!!

put my thinking cap on - a measure they talk about in brakes is swept area which is, i understand, the area the pads would contact in one revolution.

here's some light reading though not on swept area.

he makes the point that a larger rotor gives you more force.

talk to k2m, he has a single 320mm front disc on his adventure as well as a 4 piston caliper.
apparently pulls up the bike quicker than the standard twin disc setup.

Thats right. The orange does grow on you. You will not notice it at first................but it starts with a few innocent KTM stickers,.................. progresses to a KTM key ring, to KTM coffee mug and next thing you know, you have gone completely mad and start wearing orange tee shirts :eek1 . It is a very bad infection....
