Chappral is a synonym for "daffy", but they worked!

I had all their slot cars as a kid. Wish I still had them!

No Polak in F1, booooo... But I still have a Finn! They are close enough!!!:clap

I wasn't around to see any racing from that era but I loved the engineering on that car when I first found out about it at a pretty young age. Having ducted fans suck the car to the race track was only a tiny part of the engineering marvel that thing was.

    From wiki:
"It was integrated with the suspension system so the bottom of the skirt would maintain a distance of one inch from the ground regardless of G forces or anomalies in the road surface, thereby providing a zone within which the JLO fans could create a partial vacuum which would provide a downforce on the order of 1.25-1.50 G of the car fully loaded (fuel, oil, coolant). This downforce, materially greater than the weight of the car, had one journalist remark—literally quite accurate—that the 2J, which weighed less than ton, with its JLO motors running and generating their downforce of 1+ G could have been unveiled to the public on the ceiling."

Sir Frank Williams’ wife ‘Ginny’ died late on Thursday, the British formula one team announced on Friday.

The F1 Preview show on NBCSHD was ok, but not great. It was a little light on details, they covered each topic a little too briefly IMHO. They also didn't mention the new tires or the Coanda exhausts. I give it a C, but still worth watching if you recorded it. Oh, and it was delayed by some basketball or something .......

I loved Denny Hulme's comment when he first saw it:

"When I saw that thing squat down, I knew we were in deep shit" :rofl

    RIP Ginny!

Nice introduction to NBCSports, delayed 10 min due to Bball and TIVO missed the last 10 minutes. Better get used to it and extend TIVO record about an hour.

RIP Ginny, God Bless the Caregiver, we will never know just how much she meant to Frank.

Yeah, pretty thin. This is why I usually don't watch these kinds of shows. They're really superficial. The best insights came from Will Buxton talking about Lewis Hamilton's move, and David Hobbs assessing Mark Webber.

As you'd expect from NBC, the production value is super high, gorgeous set. I wish the thoughtfulness of the content matched the look of the show.

Looking at the TV programming here in the US, looks like P1 and P2 are being played on Thursday night (Pacific time). P1 starts at 9:00 PM, and p2 follows immediately after. I don't see P3 on the schedule, but Qualifying is on at 11:00 PM on Friday. Pre-race is at 10:30 PM on saturday, followed by the race. So, looking like NBC intends on doing a proper job of it.

    Nothing new under the sun...

The blow wing thing going through F1 right now? In Shiny Wings there's an aviation thread with this aircraft, designed in the 1920's. Blow wing is one of its features.
