I am pleased as I don't want to see any other Caponords like mine!!

It was a great bike and will be sorely missed even though I am replacing it with something different

Sticking with V twins (L twin to be technically correct)

The only thing to let me down was British Rail, 1hr 40mins late getting in to London

The Multistrada is a peach, comfortable with the DP gel seat and Powerbronze DB screen

MPG was 50+ running at 85MPH for most of journey (M25/M11/A12) the only thing to worry me is the useless fuel gauge which lies...

After putting some miles on my new ride, I found that the Aprilia windshield is not great on long trips - though I really like it otherwise. I read mixed reviews of the taller Givi screen so I was hesitant to spend the cash on it. I read on the AF1 forum of a guy who fit a tall Suzuki Burgman screen to his Capo with good results so I thought about doing the same thing.

I work 3 miles from National Cycle and contacted them. They had 40 of these Burgman screens that they were selling for $36 so I drove over and grabbed one. A little heat from a propane heater to tweak the shape, a few minutes with a belt sander to remove some excess holes, and I am very happy with my new touring screen.

There are two leftover mounting holes that I may re-visit later but they don't really bother me so I'm just enjoying it for now....

    BritC,

Very interested in your Bergman screen. Did you have to drill any new mounting holes to line up with the Capo's dash? How much bending was necessary to shape the screen to fit? Also, your height and inseam would help -- I'm 6'2" and 32" inseam. I've tried the Eagle screen -- too narrow, and am running a Givi with a Laminar Lip now. It's ok, but I'm getting enough turbulent flow that I'd like to try your setup.

BritC. I found the additional information on the AF1 site. I just called National Cycle and the price has dropped to $24.95. Since I also have a Buell I'd like to experiment with, I ordered 2 shipped in the same box for a grand total of $59.38 !!!! Unheard of price. Thanks for posting your mod.

I could not use any of the original holes so I did drill all new ones. Below is a picture of how the screen looked when I bought it.

The curvature or radius of the screen was too tight for it to sit against the mounts on the front cowl - I assume the Burgman must be narrower in that area. I solved this by firing up a small propane heater in my garage, and holding the screen over it. I used cotton gloves and kept it moving to avoid burning it. As the plastic became a bit cloudy, it also became soft and I opened up the curve of the shield (making it just slightly flatter, but it didn't take much).

Once the screen cooled I held it up to the Caponord mounts, got it square, and marked the 4 front holes with a Sharpie. I carefully drilled the four holes and mounted the screen with the original screws. I bought some neoprene washers along with some stainless washers at Home Depot to cushion the plastic from the screws.

With it mounted to the four main screws, the attachment points on the sides were next. Here, I very carefully used a propane torch to heat the plastic - again keeping it moving. The plastic grew cloudy and I gently folded it over to meet the side mounting point. Then it was a simple matter of marking and drilling.

When I was happy with how it was mounted I removed the screen and used a belt sander to remove material to take out the original upper and lower holes (the holes intended for the Burgman). For now I left the middle holes only because I haven't thought of a nice looking shape for that part of the screen if I remove that material.

For anyone considering this, I recommend contacting info@nationalcycle.com and asking about part N3221. It was $36 when I bought one in June. I was told they had 40 of them at that price.

    Hope this all made sense!

I think it will be great in cold weather. I'll tell you that riding it in warm weather there is almost zero airflow to my body or helmet so I have not used it much this season. Looking forward to using it when it turns cool though!

The funny thing is that this screen seems thinner than the OEM Aprilia screen but at 70 mph, it is much more solid and doesn't flutter the way the Aprilia one does. They are obviously different plastics, but I am really impressed with the quality of the National Cycle screen (this being the 4th screen I've purchased from them over the years).
