re: Tioga Pass, the east side of that is pretty darn steep all the way down.

my favorite cross-the-valley non-freeway route is 132, but you got to get out of the SFBA, and other than 580, I dunno. I doubt you want to go over Mt Hamilton :eek1

You probably want to go into Yosemite on 140 so you can do the valley floor loop, then climb up Big Oak Flat to 120 to Tioga Pass.

I had to run out & grab a few things for the bike.

there was no consideration needed.
But the right side throttle feels a bit strange, & why is the clutch pedal on the handlebars? it was really hard to get my foot up there.

I also dont think many folks in oakland liked my helmet...

I'd go up into the Oakland Hills and take Grizzly Peak Road till it turns to Skyline. At the fork take Pinehearst up to Canyon Rd. Then take it down to Moraga. I recommend taking St Mary Road at the fork. Then take Glenside Dr to Reliez Station Road to Olympic Blvd. Ride that to S. Main in Walnut Creek.

I'm in Lafayette and a stones throw from Moraga border.

On our vintage and small dual sport bikes here are a couple of practical, safe routes ...

We like to take Grizzly Peak/Redwood Road to Hayward, Palomares Road, Niles Canyon, Vallecitos (Rt 84) to Tesla/Corral Hollow to Right on Linne to Right on Kasson/River Road to J16 to Snelling to Hornitos Road to Left on Old Toll Road and into Oakhurst to 41 into the Yosemite Valley ...

This looks like a bit out of the way, but the trade-off for the person who has never been to Yosemite Valley is the Tunnel View into the Valley floor on 41 ... priceless ...

The shortest way we like to go is Redwood Road, Palomares, Rt 84, Corral Hollow, Linne Road, Kasson Road, Left on Airport to Ripon Road to River Road, 28 Mile, Rodden Road, Orange Blossom Road to Knights Ferry to La Grange Road to Red Hill Road to Rt 49/120 to Rt 120 ...

These routes stay off the interstates and bypass Tracy, Modesto and Oakdale (River Road) and Modesto (J16) ... and keep you off 4 East into Stockton, which we just did on our vintage bikes, and it sucked ...

You got plenty people tellin you how to get across Death Valley so I'll just keep quite. When you get east like into New Mexico Highway 64 across northern New Mexico is real pretty and not as high as crossing the Rockies in Colorado. 160 in Arizona turns into 64 in New Mexico. If you get close to Southeast Kansas and need a place to crash or a place to work on the scoot pm me. I'll be on the road from Thursday till next Monday other than that I'd be at your disposal
At least till the 25th and we're takin the shovelhead to the Texas mile but if yo ain't through here by then you done missed Barbers.

I heard the owner/chef of Tioga Toomey's, aka Whoa Nelly Deli, sold out and moved on a few years ago. is it still as good as it was? I haven't been there in 5-6 years.

ah, this says Matt Toomey has moved to Mammoth Village, a few miles south of there, and opened a new place, Toomey's.

Or he could take Redwood Rd. through Chabot down to Castro Valley then take E. Castro Valley Rd out to Dublin.

Then it's city streets to Livermore.
