Sorry for using the term dirt bike. Let me try again.

If you ride a KTM990 and a Triumph 800XC on the same rough terrian at the same fast pace you will know what I mean. They are miles apart as far as the suspension is concerned. That doesn't make the 800XC a bad bike, just it's suspension is better suited to pavement and smooth gravel roads than the real rough going where the really KTM shines.

Agree with Rick, Don't know why he would have to explain that.
The plus side with the Tiger is you don't need to take a ladder with you, or wear platform shoes. :deal

Probably won't be available for a test ride in the US for quite awhile... which is what I'm waiting for. I'm having fun drooling over the early release photos, though.

Has anybody heard if Triumph is planning a fancy-shmancy multimedia blitz like they did with the 800?

Well since we are way past the "sneak peek" stage, I would say the "blitz" will be different, if there actually is one.

I hope I don't see another bzzzt, whooshh bzzzt runmble rumble bzzzt web site again.

    obviously not

the bike is almost released. It's a 2012 model. It will be fully released within the month and we are only missing a few details.

the 800 marketing BS began early/mid summer and it was in full release by this time last year

Ok, if we were to compare the bikes (KTM vs 800XC) I can see how the KTM sits more like a dirt bike. I can't honestly compare the two. I guess more than anything I just wanted to stick up for the Tiger. Sorry for being difficult. I believe the tiger is very capable of pretty extreme offroad riding. Any bike can only go where the rider is capable of going.

Cause I could not find a pic of both bikes facing the same way! So I reversed the Triumph.

I thought people might enjoy seeing the relative sizes:

(And yes I reversed the BMW cause I could not find one facing the right way.)

Based on this I would say the Triumph will have a large tank...

Someone has said they think an XC version is planned, but I haven't heard anything official. I don't think it is a slam dunk there will be one - Triumph may reason there is not sufficient demand for a more-offroad-oriented version of the 1200, figuring that anyone how wants this would probably prefer the lighter-weight and smaller size of the 800 anyway.

The style/shape is growing on me.

Spoke to a Triumph (United Kingdom) dealer yesterday, the new Triumph 1200cc will be shown at the Milan bike show next week, then shown at the 'NEC' bike show in Birmingham (UK).

Still no exact price/bhp/fuel tank capacity figures as yet, but should be out soon I'm sure.

Ha ha ha ha,for all the abuse i suffered from clueless morons on this sight
about the 800 frame.Somebody has been paying attention, and fitted bolt
on rear footpegs.I never got my subframe though, but it's a start. As an adventure
bike, having fixed footpegs would stop me buying one.I'd much prefer a Trumpet
over a Beemer as i'm not a fan off Rotax(read all the Rotax disasters on here!).
So now you have the 1200 sorted, you could maybe back track and sort the 800!
Only 20 pages in to a couple going from Canada - Argentina, they've been on their
side countless times-my footrest reason!(Oh,and 2 x shagged Rotax engines by
    Peru!).

I read yesterday that spoked wheels will be an option, and that the 1200 under-went the same off-tarmac testing as the 800XC.
