this may be a stupid question, but EOD3MC.... hows that sport bike style swing arm stand rigged up to the DRZ? I've never seen that on an enduro before. Are there spindles threaded into the swing-arm? I have an old set of stands for my GSXR collecting dust since i sold the bike, it would be nice to rig them up to the DRZ for when i do work.

I am looking to buy this used Yoshimura RS3 exhaust. The seller says it is for a DRZ and is titanium. When I look at the pictures I have a few questions: 1. The bolt patterns all seem to jive with my DRZ400s in that this full system will be able to accept the stock heat sheild as I understand it. However, there's a black collar that I am not too clear about it's purpose. Ah.. that balding spot seems to be more prevalent than I remember It was good meeting you Dave, I believe we are both extremely satisfied with our swap. Can't wait to see what your next plans are for the DRZ, I frequent this thread so I'll be able to keep up with it! Lots of plans for the KLX
I pulled the trigger, and bought it this morning for $160. Seemed like a good deal. I will put it on this weekend and see how things work out.
even though it was 36 degrees this morning, I had to ride to work because I jetted and 3x3'd my box the night before. I almost forgot what a difference it makes on this bike. Only difference was on my 06 SM I installed a full yoshi system too... oddly enough with a stock pipe opened up I don't really think there was much difference... but it's been a few years so maybe I'm wrong. I also bought a jet kit online from factory pro... and the jet sizes they sent for the Main were ranging from 120 to 127.5... the stock is 142. I thought maybe they were aftermarket jets and actually just different numbers. When comparing side by side all the MJ's were much smaller than the stock jet. Luckily I had the leftovers from my Dynojet kit from my 06. and used a 150 MJ from that kit, and it performs flawlessly everywhere. Good thing too, cause I was not planning to take that shit apart again for a while :) I like power wheeling out of corners in second gear... now to get through xmas so I can spend money on a bigger tank, rad guards and a second set of wheels... I love this bike (for the second time around) I don't think I'll be selling this one.
I read somewhere that if removing the header bolts, when you go to insert them back, you should use some anti seize on those 2 bolts, is that really needed? and if so, can i just use a bit of grease on them and insert? do not have any anti seize.
Does this help? A friend gave me a pair of them awhile ago. The other is a post type rack for the front wheel (I guess)... I've normally only use it with the smaller bikes..it's steady but not overly sturdy.
Glad to hear it.... as for next plans...single track riding this weekend, racing (more like riding) in a hare scramble on Jan 6th... and on the 7th, I'll be ordering replacement parts for things I broke on the 6th
I installed the Nova WR gearbox for over a year and am very happy with it. I have done about 12,000km most in ADV rides but also some trail riding. I use the bike in NZ and Aussie and find the ratios good for all round long distance use. Nothing is perfect (except a 6 speed which Nova quoted me at more than the cost of a new DRZ400) but this is a great mod for a good light weight bike to be used for ADV riding. I have two DRZ400's and would like to do a similar upgrade to my other bike and would be interested to hear of folks who have the ACT solution which is considerably less expensive. I look at the ACT ratios and I am concerned about the gap between 4th and 5th. With a standard (which i have and will keep for ADV for reliability) engine running the bike on the open road in a strong head wind or up a steep high I doubt you could pull 5th gear. I run 15/44 with the Nova gears and I find that a good all round solution for my type of riding. Comments from ACT or Nova riders would be much appreciated. If i am seeing this correctly is looks like the stand itself is modified with a grip of some sort to grab the square portion of the swing arm. There are no modifications/brackets on the bike for it. Looks good. Maybe instead of selling mine I'll spend an hour in the machine shop making something similar. Thanks for the pic.
That was the old way those track stands worked before spools became common. The company that makes your stand may even still sell that style of attachment, or as you note, you could make some. I have a spool style stand I use on my Versys. For the DRZ I replaced the rear axle cotter pin with a quick pin. Then I simply pull the pin and slide socket wrench extensions in the axle holes of the DRZ. I have even thrown screw drivers in the holes when I have my extensions in use. The DRZ swing arm is much narrower than my Versys so the extensions stick out pretty far where the contact the spool stand, but the bike is so light its not a big deal. Works great for chain maintance. I post up a pick later.
I just put a Leo Vince exhaust on my DRZ 400S (got a smokin deal from Forrest at Wheeling Cycle Supply ) the exhaust was from an E model and the mount behind the passenger peg was close, but wouldn't line up (about an inch off), so I went down to my local muffler shop and the guy welded a SS washer on the pipe mount, worked great and he only charged me $20, which was less then I would have spent in beer money to have my friend weld it
