If you are going to Costa rica to party, you have to go to Puerto Viejo. And if you are staying in Puerto Viejo and you want to party, then you must be staying at Rocking J's. It is the biggest frickin hostel you have ever seen. And it is a dump! But everyone goes there because it is the place to be. It is a mini gold mine.

Look at this room at Rockin J's. There was almost no room to turn around. The 4 little beds were carmmed in to a dimly lit room with no personality. Compare this with La Paz Waterfall Gardens......where I just stayed a couple of nights earlier.

In Puerto Viejo, I rented a blcycle and rode it 10 miles down the road to Manzanillo. I was checking out spots on the beach to camp that night so I could check out of Rockin J's

It rained most of the day as I rode my bike down the road. But it didn't really matter. it was 85 degrees. Here one of the beaches I found along the way

Cahuita National Park was just what I was expecting to find on the caribbean coast of Costa Rica. Clear blue water and white sandy beaches.

This was not a hot spring.
It was an well that was dug to look for oil along the coast.
But the water was hot like a hot spring.
Instead of smelling like sulfer, it smelled like oil
    I didn't stay long

Next stop was Terrialba. I went whitewater kayaking on the Pacuare River. That river is rated in the top 5 rivers in the world to run the whitewater. It was running class 4+. And unlike a lot of other rivers I have done, there is more whitewater than flat water. In fact, the whitewater almost never stops for 17 miles. It ws the best river I have done by far. And the scenary is great too. Lots of waterfall tumbling in to the main river channel.
I didn't bring my camera because it would have died.
And I didn't buy the pictures the guides took because they were asking $40 for the pics.
So sorry, I didn't spend the cash so i could show you how crazy fun it was. So here is a picture I pulled off the internet to give you an idea of it

In Terrialba, I stayed at Hostel de Lis. Here is the owner Lis outside what I found to be the nicest hostel in CR. And all for $10 a night
