Yeah, it might be a little more costly then the others, but its said to get excellent distance, and at higher speeds and on hard pac and tarmac. All in all, I think its worth it. My CBR1000RR tires cost me over 320 after taxes adn instal.
There is no definitive thread. Following should put you on the right path though. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=694844 Previous comment that all high flow head bikes had upgraded springs isnt correct, they all had rallye valve springs not clutch springs.
Dunlop 908RR and D606? I like the bigger center lugs on 908RR which should wear better with street riding. I currently have a Perilli MT21 Rallycross in rear and Continental Twinduro TKC80 in front. I'm not a good enough rider yet to know the difference in the dirt. However, on the street, the MT21 is a little squirly on turns. I've already slipped a little down shifting in turns or when accelerating hard coming out of a sharp turn. Maybe this will happen with all dual sport tires hooked up to an LC4. My xl350 never had the torque to let loose on dry pavement. Plenty of thread left on front, so I was debating getting a rear TKC80.
Yes the Dunlop. I was told by Dual Sport Plus that the vast majority go with that combo. 908 rear http://www.dunlopmotorcycle.com/tirecatalog_tire.asp?id=96\ 606 Front http://www.dunlopmotorcycle.com/tirecatalog_tire.asp?id=14 I love the 908, havent had any issues with them, in dry or wet pavement at high or low speeds and was great in gravel and foot+ deep mud.
What paniers are you using Bigboy? I want to add some hard bags for fishing day trips and would feel more comfortable with lockable storage. Thanks, Gerst
I'm using this panniers: http://holan.pl/en/product/245/406/2154/NOMADA_PRO_cases the quality of panniers are really great, I've been using them for 2 years already and can't tell any cons about them
I love my 606F and 908R Just did a 250 mile loop with me, the wife, and all the crap i thot we would need, mostly did dirt did some ass haulin on the pavement, real good!!!
@GERST Yeah, these are the paniers I have as well, I really like them, and the water in the side walls with the tap on the back is a nice binus if camping. I recommend these. easy install and removal,. They lock the the rack and they lock shut too.
Hey Guys!! I bought my 2005 KTM640 adv r in the winter, had maybe 2000kms on it since then. I went to change the oil. I dropped both drain plugs, and did both filters. I did it while on the center stand. I added 2 L of Thumper Oil. The glass is full, so thats good, but I thought after doing it, I only got 800 ml out of it. So basically 1 litre. now, the guy that had before me did the previous and I dont know how far he went on it, so I might have been low. My concern is more that there is a resevoir or something that doesnt drain possibly if its on the center stand, and I may have 3L in it not 2. And thoughts on this? I did push down on the tail of the bike to lean the bike back as well as the forward. Just curious. Thanks!!!
Did you pull the drain plug under the filter (frame drain plug) as well? step 6: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=57107
Ahh crap, no, I didnt. Hmm. Okay, so i guess I will be having to redo this then. here are some options I thought of, what do you guys think. 1. Drain some oil from the oil pan, until the oil comes into the proper level, and accept that some of it is the old oil still inside ( prob is I dont know if it was syth, semi -syth or reg oil before) ( I added Thumper semi syth.) 2. Drain the whole thing and refill with exsisting oil ( same concern as #1) 3. Drain the whole system and buy more oil ( arg the wife wont be happy, just did the sports bike oil and new tires for both bikes) What do you guys think? Safe to use the oil in it now? 2 litres of new semi syth thumper oil in it, mixed with whatever was in the frame? or is this dangerous for it?
The only way to see that plug is by removing your spin on oil filter. Look up where the filter goes and you have an Allen head screw. Once removed you are draining your frame. Don't forget to bleed your oil system upon refill. The index is very helpful. Might as well just do your oil change all over. That way you know you have your oil level right. --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=42.532935,-93.271832
I wouldnt worry about it, after an oil change there will always be some old oil leftover. Use a turkey baster or something to suck out some oil from the engine case to correct the level.
The frame holds about 1/3 of the 640s total capacity so you can reuse the oil but it will be 1/3 dirty and likely have some viscosity loss meaning you shouldn't run it too long before changing it again... If you really care about your engine then I would just do a proper oil change including the down tube fill and bleed...
thanks guys. Tricky little oil change. I thought 2 drain plugs was definitely getting it all. Next time I will remember the frame LOL thanks
Hi all , i have been playing around with the fairing on my 2002 640a . I have tried the Laminar lip and didn't like it as there was still air buffing . I have made a few that are a bit higher than the Laminar lip and still have air buffing . The latest i have made has some extras on the sides and works not to bad but still have buffing around the top and a bit around the sides of my helmet . If i just have the standard faring there is no buffing around the helmet . What i am trying to get is less air on my body and the helmet so that it is easer on my on HWY touring. Has anyone solved this problem ???????:huh Tezza
