Finally some snow here in Cloggyland Went to the garage of a friend to work on a car and found my hack like this when I came out of the garage at the end of the afternoon. Wiped the snow off of the seat and screen and had some fun driving home ( too bad there were too many cagers driving very slow )
I am a new BMW owner and as it happens a Cossack owner as well. I bought this outfit from a circus clown who used the sidecar in reverse and performed his act on it with locked steering in a reverse circle. Great bike - then I didn't ride it for around ten years - now having bought a new URAL sidecar and loving it as it fits my wheelchair easily I am now also tinkering with a return to the BMW. I know nothing of BMW. I have attached some pictures - it had an interesting past - the prev owner replaced the front end with a GSX 1100 front and made up some air filters to suite just off the carbs. As in the photos I am wondering what the engine is - K100? what cc is the engine.. if you can tell and what year would it or does it look like. I have just got electrics back on and going although there is no action at all when I turn the key, lights etc work... I just need to know what it is - the engine that is. And what kind of air filters I can use in the same style/type. Sorry to bombard you but you seem to know allot about these animals - I will attach a photo of my new Ural. Cheers, Dan. This is the Cossack with BMW motor. Can anyone tell me the model details and CC's? Year of make of engine? I will be working on this from the ground up. It is a great beast and was running well ten years ago. Wasps hey. https://cossackclown.smugmug.com/Motorcycles/CUSTOM-RIDES-BY-DAN/i-fFTvggC/0/M/IMG1369-M.jpg And this is the latest and greatest return to bikes in ten years without. I will be setting up the Cossack/BMW with the same hand control system and it has a similar sized side car so it will fit my wheelchair and my lady quite easily. https://cossackclown.smugmug.com/Motorcycles/CUSTOM-RIDES-BY-DAN/i-2jvgGkb/0/M/DSCN1116-M.jpg If anyone knows of any other wheelchair users who used to ride and have gotten back on or would like to - let me know. Thanks in advance. Dan.
The motorcycle is a Dnepr, not a Ural. The engine is a post '81 R-series engine. Judging by the carburettors i would say an R80, 800cc engine. But there are also R100 bikes with these carburettors.
Look at the engine number, you can use it to figure out which motor it is. http://bmwmotorcycletech.info/IDnumbrs.htm
Not many people like the look of the R1200CL, but I think a sidecar helps it to make friends! Just spent a very chilly morning training the new owner, his first sidecar experience and one that he enjoyed immensely. Another convert! Yes, it's on the RIGHT side!
Thanks! Yes, it's relatively easy, but the customer was happy as it was. It rides really nicely and steering is not at all heavy. With a heavier sidecar, it can be done with a simple adapter.
