One more. My Asus tablet is being a PITA with linking these pics and such.

This is my parent's (and my) old house in Conifer. It is the house and detached garage to the right of the oval, plowed pond. They had 11 acres but sold it to retire in France!

No real flight time for me. Just building time on Microsoft flight simulator. Been building time in a 767-300ER. Had a couple night approaches yesterday with 2 mile visibility, 700 ceiling, and snowing. Full ILS of course. I like the challenge.

"Jeppesen's" as in Jeppesen's Chart Service??
If so i just got their Electronic charts for my IPad two days ago. Great service and super customer support from Kevin Foley. Got tired of updating the airway manuals by hand. I just love it in a dark flight deck and the ability to expand the plate...awsome.

Yep, my buddy works for Jepp doing airport diagrams. They let their employees rent their company planes. They only have the 172 and a Diamond DA20 at the moment.

For those not too familiar with MS Flight Sim, here is a screen shot.

Took this screenshot while on final of a visual approach to KBOI, in a 767-300ER. The panel is actually from the default 737 that comes with the software, but with a couple tweaks. It functions well, but not 100% realistic. It is close enough however. I am running a program called Air Hauler. This software allows me to manage a cargo company. I can purchase or lease aircraft, hire pilots, open bases at different airports, and fly. It tracks real world cost of fuel, and gives me jobs to pick and choose routes. On this particular flight I was flying from Honolulu to Boise, ID with a little over 100,000lbs. of cargo. It makes the flight sim a bit more fun.

For those wondering, I cheat and speed up the simulation once at cruising altitude, and then reduce it back the actual speed for the descent and landing.

Since there are a lot of pilots etc.. here

Why is the biplane design not used more in aviation?

Seem the added lift would be better to have ( and they just look cool )

More efficient airfoils that work better at higher speed. They are great a very low speed, but the drag created limits higher speed flight. (simple answer)

    Thanks
I thought there was somthing about design limits
Speed ruled the day now its fuel in rule

The old adage about Stearman: Take off at 65, cruise at 65, and land at 65. :D Lots of drag.

Didn't think it was that bad
Not into areodynamics but it is interesting how physics changes
    with speed, heat etc..

Yup, lack of aerodynamics. Great lift though.

I was reading in either Plane & Pilot, or Flying magazine about a guy from TX that bought an AN-2 while on a business trip to the former Soviet Union and brought it back to have it restored. It's cruise is maybe 130knts. They have a procedure in the operating handbook that is to bring the plane to 34knts IAS and land it pretty much anywhere in case you get lost in fog and can't find the airport. I guess they didn't come with an IFR package.

Taking off! He's only about halfway down the runway, turned out through a gap in the trees over the beach on the side of the airport. I guess it's safer than going the length and having to avoid the mountain at the end.

Sure they did, it's just that sov spec IFR stands for Ican't Find the Runway...

I see it now. I originally thought the photo was taken from Maho Beach, not Simpson Bay

The beautiful Avro Vulcan which carried out the longest bombing raid in history flying from the UK to the Falkland islands via Ascension island in 1982, I believe there is one still flying.
