Is it still a "travel" photo if you can see your house? I took the long way 'round on the commute home from work a month ago and caught this view of the Shenandoah Valley and the Blue Ridge Mountains from the mountain above my home. The farm is just off the shadowed end of the hill partly obscured by the branch coming out of my helmet. I'd love to travel to some of the exotic places I've seen posted here, but I'm pretty happy with the riding in the neighborhood too!

June 1981. My first lonely excursion. Whilst in the Army Engineers we built a road in the Cairngorm mountain in Scotland. I took my almost legal Yamaha YZ400 Motocrosser up there in a digger bucket and in the evenings I would ride up the mountain on my own for the hell of it...good times.


A year late in June 1982 about 8500 miles further south I find myself again playing on a Can Am 350 Bombadier in the Falklands between air raids. Photo taken in San Carlos bay with machine gun on homemade mount behind, foxholes in the dirt and raiding boats in the bay. More good times....

I've posted some of these elsewhere. All were taken on the way or during WestFest '08.
