Tenere is Japanese bike, Explorer is Britain bike... What else do you need to know? Tenere has 2 cylinders, Triumph has 3 cylinders... Oh... You need 2 people to lift Tenere, 3 for Explorer :)

Another good site for Explorer specific information can be had at-

    http://www.tiger-explorer.com/

It is a bit more active than the forum here for the big Tiger.

I like TT and sent them bunch of money in the past, but... Hanging every item in inventory on the bike makes it look like Christmas Tree with no style...

LOL, we think alike as that is the first that crossed my mind too. The other, I really can not stand the look of a topbox on a motorcycle. I definitely get the need to have one to lock your helmet into, especially in light of my newest helmet costing an arm and a leg. I could live with most of that stuff minus the topbox and the mirror extenders. One thing I loved on my explorer is the view afforded by the stock mirrors, I thought they rocked. I still need to address the hand guards and I am thinking of going with the Barkbuster brand as they seem well made and fit the bike nicely.

I just got back from my local BMW / Triumph dealer where I rode the Tiger Explorer and the GS back to back and here's my concise review without mincing words:

The Tiger Explorer a sheep in wolf's clothes. It's a well-sorted bike with tons of standard options and it looks great; however, the low torque, driving mannerisms, and "refinement" make this a fantastic city/touring bike, not an adventure bike.

The Tiger is the kind of bike you take home to Mom and Dad. The GS is the bike you take behind the middle school and get pregnant.

This is just me. Not looking to ruffle feathers--these are just my findings from the back-to-back test rides I took this morning. I like the bike very much and the price isn't bad either. It's just not MY kind of adventure bike.

Best characterization of the two bikes I have read so far ... :lol3

Just makes me wonder, what you'd do with a Multistrada 1200.

That is exactly what I thought when I rode the GS back to back with the 990. I guess one man's vixen is another man's nun.

I had the chance to ride a new 1200 Tiger Explorer today. An Amazing ride!!

I know this may sound odd but I was really impressed with the side-view mirrors.
Something about the length of the arm and the shape of the mirror allowed me to see right past my shoulders!
Enough so that I want to put them on my two bikes.
Anyone know where to find them for less than the ~$70 per on Bike Bandit?

    Thanks
    Brian

I've had my TEX now for a little over 4 months. I love the bike, but have never been satisfied with the exhaust. It sounds good out on the open road, but around town it just sounds anemic. After looking over what's available I decided to order a new can from Scorpion. It arrived on Tuesday and I installed it that night, but haven't had a chance to get out & ride it untill today. Talk about a transformation! I am very pleased with the build quality, looks, and the sound of this new exhaust. I'ts got a deep growl to it now that is much louder than the OE can, but not at all obnoxious. My new TEX now sounds like a Tiger should!:clap

I'd love to oblige you guys, but neither one of our digital cameras or our digital camcorder will pick up the sound good enough for me to even post it. It's weird cuz our camcorder does a great job of picking up sounds @ our grandkid's sports & school functions...

Jon, where did you buy your Scorpion exhaust? I would like to get a little more growl out of my TEX, sounds a bit too sewing machine like at low RPM.
