I didn't notice your post time so I was assuming you meant today, but I happened to scan yesterday's episode which is now available on their site and found the segment. Edit: I found a link to just the segment about my video. Obviously some of their details are wrong. I wish it were only a 7' cliff. http://www.rightthisminute.com/video/ending-trip-falling-cliff Apparently, they're just playing my youtube video and broadcasting it. I don't think it has been uploaded to their site (though I haven't checked). I got an email from them a few days ago but I didn't reply so the only info they had was my initial youtube video description, which I've since updated. This is getting a bit surreal. I wonder who will play me in the movie version?
Just adding my support and general 'holy s@#$' statement to the crash. You made the right choice also, I would've done the exact same thing without even thinking about it. Glad you're OK!
I noticed quite a resemblance to Team Longriders' avatar... http://www.advrider.com/forums/showpost.php?p=20850576&postcount=1 . . .
Joe, Glad everything turned out mostly OK. That was a scary crash! Have you upgraded the suspension on the DR? I've seen numerous KLR's with stock suspension bounce out of control like that but never a DR.
If it is go pro submit it: http://gopro.com/videos/video-of-th...eo&utm_campaign=vow-newsletter-auto-chicherit
I have always found that the fall isn't what hurts. It is the sudden stop at the end that hurts. :eek1 Are you going to DV this year? If so I would be happy to buy you a beverage.
I had upgraded to Eibach springs and Intimidators in the front and Eibach spring and Cogent rebuild on the rear so its pretty well sorted for a DR. Although since my upgrade I have heard that Racetech Emulators are suppose to be a better option in the front where primary use is in the dirt which is my case.
Joe, I just found this thread and what a read. So lucky you are! You guys were cooling it under a tree near a motel in Green River when my som and I did a U-turn with truck and bike trailer to go back and chat with you a bit. I figured the two of you were headed to Black Dragon and Eagle Canyon. The Dragon didn't get you, but the Eagle did! Next time you want to ride the rest, give us a head up. I'm sure some company can be had! Ken
Thanks for sharing your story. Well told. Yes, you made the right call on stopping the TAT. Glad you are Ok, and your partner made the trip. Thanks.
Just found this and man Joe, you really lucked out on that fall. Glad it didn't turn out worse. As a DR650 owner I'm really impressed that the bike was rideable after that tumble. Crazy stuff. Glad you're ok.
Holy freaking crap! Between you and the bike, it's a toss up as to who is tougher. You both started again after the crash. Buy a lottery ticket, dude.
Hey Joe, just seeing this now. Holy crap! Glad you're OK! I think you need to change your tagline to "Cliff Happens". Dave
That is the way I had my DR set up but I had the Emulators in the front. It handled very well and I never had any issues like that. I had my KLR with stock suspension and my XChallenge with stock front take me for a ride before but never the DR. Thanks for answering my question. Have you diagnosed the running problem on the DR yet?
Wow! What a thread on what can happen in the blink of an eye. The camera recorded what is so fuzzy about what happens and we don't remember. I avoided a head-on when a truck coming at me tried to pass on a curve and ran me off the road into the embankment. I came to with a nice woman holding my left arm telling me "Don't move, we called 911 and they're on their way!". Feeling my face with my hands, I started asking "Who took my helmet off, where are my gloves?" and she replies back to me "You did" because I had no memory of doing it. So glad you're OK, and that you had the .... guts, to even consider trying to finish the ride. Stay safe out there and protect your brain with a helmet. And that's a good example of a tough DR!
Ouch. Glad to hear you are ok. A local guy did a similar immediate left turn maneuver. His landing was a bit different though. <object width="420" height="315"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/eTuX_0ZS5mM?hl=en_US&version=3&rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/eTuX_0ZS5mM?hl=en_US&version=3&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="420" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>
