whats the possiblity of just lacing an 18" with the stock hub?

I dunno. I'm sure somebody could do it for the price of a moon landing. A reason I have been tempted (when I have been tempted) to go orange is better tire choice. If the rear is a 17, then that reason is gone. But maybe with all of us yelling, the manufacturers will build something suitable for heavy, high-powered dual-sports.

with a 17" rear it automatically throws it into the street oriented "adventure bike"

price wise for a rim change... I've owned and ridden on 3 woodys wheel works wheels and have been nothing short of very very pleased

bike looks good , should absolutely dust se,990,gs,vstrom etc on the street and probably all of them except se - duc, big triumph, tenere off pavement. There's a new sheriff in town. Nice except for exhaust placement

here's a quick and dirty edit:

Suzuki should have been building all along what KTM is making.
They have the suspension technology available to them, they just choose to build at a certain lower price point.

I don´t understand how come this bike is going to replace the "ADVENTURE" that we all know.

how about KTM going down to a higher-performance (and much lighter) 750-800cc v-twin bike? with he 990 heading up to compete in the 1200 ADV class it makes sense to go down and compete in the 800 class.

don't think it is completely. KTM wants a bigger piece of the 1200 adv class...as does everyone else it seems.
now if KTM puts a shaft of the bike, i think you guys might just have a head explosion.

Don't worry about it-- 45 years ago they would have been complaining about disc brakes compared to drums .

I agree that that this is an overall much improved bike for most owners, and it should get more business for KTM. And it's not like anyone's going to force us to give up our 9x0's. And indeed- has there been any announcement that the 990 is "outgoing"?

in my world my 950 is now appreciating.
