by the way... we'll be in tallahassee with the rigs by summer's end to visit some of my friend's kids who attend FSU. we'll let you know when
Darn Greg, ya think ya could've come up with an uglier seat. What the hell is that black fur on the seat, a dyed yak?
i have a better seat... i just didn't send it on this "trip" i'll put it back on when it gets home you are right.... but, i DO hear that maybe.... just maybe the new K1600GTL seat is nice
LOL, Johnny... yeah, some nutball let me "BORROW" that seat..... reminded him of some girl he knew in college, i think no offense to anyone, living or dead, intended
i love that route not only did i already google that, too but.... have it installed into my 2 garmins.... and johnny's garmin, ready to make the trip i SO wanted to do it it would have been AMAZING
Unfortunatly - nope. It's pretty crap. Unsolicited Plug: If you're already at DMC getting hack'd, go south to Russell and get Day-long'd while you're on the left coast. threadjack over
if i were out there i would the cool thing... and, please remember i'm 5'6" and have a 27.5" inseam... and rode the bike with a KAHEDO X-LOW/TOURATECH seat... is that i can now have ANY SEAT I WANT without worrying about not being able to put my foot/feet down at a light
Getting back to the title of this thread, I was at DMC today and had a chance to eyeball this new "grande" M72DX. The extra 4" in width is not that noticeable, but man o man the trunk is now way bigger! There was some dead space behind the seat on the old M72 that's been eliminated by relocating the divider between the trunk and the passenger compartment. Add that to the 4" in extra width, and the trunk looks cavernous. Plus the weight is now shifted a little bit forward. I like my sidecar, but this one is so nice it's making me think that if I crack into a tree or something it won't be so bad because I can replace my tub with this one!
i'm glad you like hte DX... john and i were the first to go with it i know it was the right decision for me... i'm glad that you (who has infinitely more experience that i do) agree. can't wait to fill up that trunk before going on a nice long trip
I like it too! Question ?? Does this mean that the overall track width is 4" wider as well or did DMC modify the mainframe and positioned the struts differently in order to fit the Tub: moved it closer to the bike and retain the same track as the MD72D?
the frames have to be different, because the right side case and the tub haven't gotten any closer together than they were on the original model and..... i now know (because Barry measured it for me) that the whole rig is 79.8" wide from left side case (and left mirror of my GS-Adventure) and the fender of the sidecar which is 4" wider than you thought it would be, i believe, elmer which is, by the way.... an INCH WIDER THAN MY NISSAN ARMADA...
Thanks and I see....mighty wide . Maybe eventually the innovative Barry will come up with a quick-disconnect for crossing small gated cow crossings and ATV blockers!
yes..... you mentioned that to me before here's something: jay took my rig to SOUTH WIND BMW, near ENUMCLAW.... to show off his new creation at a vendor show 2 weeks ago today but... when they arrived there, the rig wouldn't fit through the double doors, of course... do, he had to DISMANTLE IT, ON SITE before reassembling it inside then, the opposite, when the show was over, to take it home fun.... huh?
He, he....I can imagine Jay cursing while bending over and sweating putting it on n' off. I can disconnect my entire rig in 15 min. Remove 4 bolts and unlpug 2 plugs: electricals and sidecar brake line. Then one got to "drag" the tub through the gates and across the pipes...... The most cumbersome are the lower large main bolts at the 2 subframe a-arms. Re-connecting is takes 1/2-3/4 an hour due to having to balance and tilt the bike to fit the bolt holes..aarrghhh! Still part of the adventure. This was posted legal for all vehicles less than 40" wide.
