After testing in the sand dunes - in which the bike was totally at home! - and the resulting video: http://youtu.be/0TYRjt1pDQM I've bought a T15 front sprocket to see how that interacts with the stock 42 rear, and if it makes the bike snappier in the sand.
When I had my 640A I used to toggle back and forth between a 15 and a 17 along with the 42 rear. I found it perfect for poking around on double track or the 17 on the road. By flipping the axle spacer around no chain tension adjustment was needed. Dirty
Great Vid mate. I will be visiting Dubai for a few days in June. Is there somewhere that hires bikes and gear, so I could get out in the dunes?
my 99 ADV is still chugging along. Old factory seat is worn out so will be upgrading to Seat Concept seat soon. Also think its time to ditch the stock exhaust pipe and put something a little lighter and noisier.
I picked up this 07 in the fall of last year, and got a few short rides in before the weather tanked on us. Well looked after with ~16k on the clock and it doesn't look like many dirt miles. I picked up off CL and the seller shipped it from Portland. I have seen this bike in this thread with different POs (though I can't find the posts right now...). As it was prior to leaving Oregon: Hanging out next to the GS in Md: As she sits now: I have been going through it from the centerstand up, looking for anything that needs attention. So far I have done the wheel and head bearings, countershaft seal & o-ring, carb clean/rebuild, new clutch master cylinder and slave seal, and re-torquing all the fasteners I can get my hands on (most with 243 for good measure). Can't wait to get it buttoned up and in the dirt!
A quiet pipe will let you more easily sneak in and out of questionable places. A loud pipe screams annoying trespasser. On yesterdays ride, I was able to ride within 40' of 3 doe and a fawn in the woods. . Michael
Grease the pivot completely. all the bearings and bolts. Grease the swinging arm bolt. Change the fork oil. b
its the standard one that I modified made my stock footpegs wider also at the same time - and the side ones are Andy Strapz brand -http://www.andystrapz.com/products-details.php?productId=36&productCategoryId=22&Level=1 http://www.andystrapz.com/products-details.php?productId=36&productCategoryId=22&Level=1#
WP fork rebound assy. is vulnerable - need to check it and replace as needed. Hope he's using a torque wrench for all those fasteners.
I have a 2000 640A with a Seat Concepts regular seat. Only complaint is its to hard. Should have got the soft foam. Maybe it will soften up. I also have the SXC Exhaust which does great, and isn't that loud at all.
Trying to swap my front wheel on my 06 Adventure with an 03 525 EXC wheel. I need help with the wheel spacers, what are my options? I read a thread where someone suggested the spacers from an 03 Adv, that won't work I have the bigger axle. I may try getting another of the stock spacers (longer one) and use the longer spacer on each side. The spacers would have to be cut down to the proper depth. Thoughts? Singletrak
