Some quick googling shows that the lt230 had some spline wear issues. We're back on a disco kick after looking at some cherokees and are considering a '95 with a 5spd and a '99 (series 1, I think) with an auto box. I'm partial to manual trannies, but the '99 has lower miles and already has an OME lift (which I would want eventually). Conversely, the '95 has records going back aways (possibly since new, we'll see tonight.) And they are asking half as much. But, the dude sounds like a douche.

I think we're going to buy the '95 today. This will probably turn out to be the 3rd or 4th worst car buying decision I've made to date.
There is already some trash stuck to the rear axle. I think I picked it up in one of the water crossings on the adventure shortcut.

Well, my new Disco is already in the shop. All part of the plan though. After talking to the mechanic, I feel like this one might get chalked up in the "well bought" column.
Not at all. This is a stop gap. Our van has 260k + miles on it, and she doesn't run like she used to. Plus, it's winter and I wanted a plaything, so we bought this hunk of junk for cheap (it's slightly less junky than the van ) and we'll buy a bimmer when we find one that fits our criteria. Oh, and I have to sell a bike before I can put a bunch of stupid bolt on parts on it. Since it's already got the mild lift I wanted, I'm thinking lockers come spring time. :eek1
