If you have a larger ADV bike, take a look at Rotopax containers. I carry an extra gallon on longer rides just in case...

MSR 33 oz bottle is what I use. Rotopax would carry more.

Has anybody tried or though of trying empty Seafoam bottles to carry fuel short term? Maybe a day or two on a long trip?

There are guys using MSR Dromedary water carriers to carry fuel for shorter periods.. one guy did a test and held gas in one for several days and while it expanded a bit because it couldnt vent, it held up just fine. I w

ouldnt use one for long term storage but I have a couple that I bought when I need 10 extra liters to get me to the next station.

The real soft bags for fuel were made in Australia and the US importer gave up on them because of terrible customer service... I talked to the import guy directly.

I also read a thread where some Aussie guys were using these http://www.seatosummit.com/products/display/134 apparently they have a inner liner that is fuel resistant. I have one at home but havent tried it yet.

I use two 33 oz MSR fuel bottles attached to the bike with a bicycle water bottle holder, and held tightly in place with a hose clamp. This gives me an extra half gallon of fuel, which equals 25-30 miles for me. I've dropped the bike directly one of the fuel bottles twice and it never leaked. It has a small dent in the bottle, but that's to be expected.

Mounted on my passenger pegs. One on each side.

I wouldn't trust the lids on a Seafoam bottle. They just don't seem heavy duty enough for me to have peace of mind.

note MSR fuel bottles are built stronger than most. they are designed to sustain higher pressures of having a MSR stove pressurize back into bottle.

It would work fine, but why not spend ten bucks on an aproved fuel container instead?

I keep a MSR bottle in my tool tube, my tire repair type stuff keeps it from bouncing around. Remember to add a bit of stabil to the fuel if you tend to forget... just a couple weeks of sitting can make E10 junk in a bottle.

I have a gift card for L.L. Bean from my birthday, and I've just realized they have MSR bottles. I see people damhikbitchmoaning about the new safety style push&turn cap. any issues with it in your experience?

I just finished a CDR ride and carried 2 gallons in a Rotopax. I ditched the CARB filler for another type. On my XR4 I used two MSR bottles attached to the Mojavi bag. Worked like a charm in both cases.

These are the ones I was discussing in my post.. JGT told me they had issues with QC and the manufacturer was terrible in their customer service.

I wish they didn't have the childproof caps... But it's not a huge deal. It's like any other push down and twist safety cap. It certainly wouldn't keep me from buying the bottles again.
