XR650L: Shorai Battery Relocation

Another quick comment.... On any wiring endeavour that I tackle that leaves a clump of wires (and would work GREAT on the fuse box..) is to use some double sided Velcro electrical cable ties and a piece of wetsuit neoprene. I have some 1/8" neoprene with lycra on both sides and then just wrap her up. It has proven time and time again to be really water resistant and is super easy to remove for cleaning.

Wizard, am I correct in assuming that with your relocate, you left the relay, fuse block, and CDI back in the rear box and just moved the battery to under the seat? That's actually the approach I've been thinking about.

Yes I left the cdi and fuse box in the battery tray...
I'm going to put an air compressor in the old battery tray so I only had to move the battery to make room for that..

Not to put words in CW's mouth, but yes.... Just the battery got moved. The space where the battery went will now house an air compressor and tire tools. I like the way the side panels look from the back on the "L" better than the "R"... just preference

Man.... I'll post the neoprene cover birds nest. I am embarrassed and utterly ashamed of the wiring. I bought it that way and plan on reworking it when I need to tear the motor down or do some work. The KTM has proven to be XR tough. I change the oil, ride it as hard as I can, put it away wet and it starts immediately every time without a hitch. One day though

After doing some research, I believe the following fuse box covers will fit the Honda, XR650L fuse box.

Part #38210-KR0-005 is a few dollars less expensive, so I am going to purchase this fuse box cover.

Thank you, gentlemen. I can order the fuse box cover from my local dealer, or from a variety of online vendors. Therefore, I am going to add this item to another order I am placing online. I'll be sure to keep you updated, but I will be surprised if this fuse box cover is not a perfect fit.

My NX650, fuse box cover arrived in the mail today.



I am pleased to report it fits perfectly.



If I wish, I can trim back the electrical tape, and relocate the fuse box on top of the air box, in front of the starter relay. However, the fuse box is now conveniently located, and very weatherproof with the addition of the Honda, fuse box cover.



My Shorai battery is still performing very well. I am very pleased with the results from my Shorai battery relocation, and I can recommend it without reservation.

Spud... you the man! I was just yesterday looking at my (potential) setup and thinking, "thats a really bad place for an exposed fuse block". But, not having any better ideas, i figured I would find something later. Thank you for doing it for me

I have now ridden 1,600 miles since I completed my Shorai battery relocation. Today I decided to reinstall the oil separator on my bike.



To facilitate re-installation of the oil separator, I removed my Shorai battery, and inspected all the bike’s electrical components. The Shorai battery was in excellent condition, as was the velcro that attaches it to the top of the air box.

Since the initial Shorai installation, I have also added a Uni air filter to my bike.



Here are the final photographs I took before I installed the seat, and went for a nice ride.

Did you oil your Uni Filter? looks a little dry....

Yes, I oiled the Uni air filter with untinted, bar and chain oil from Wal-Mart. The bar and chain oil works pretty well, but I have since purchased the blue, Bel-Ray, foam filter oil.

I was just at Walmart today looking for bar and chain oil and didn't find any...I need to look harder or they don't carry it at this store, but not to use on my air filter, I actually have Uni-filter oil for that.
