    Second night in Belize
It's very different here as compared to Mexico.
People are friendly here but I dont feel as safe as I did in Mexico
I have only seen one policeman so far
    He stopped me
    Very friendly
He told me that I have a cool bike and sent me on my way
Not a lot of nice beaches here
    But the beer is good
I even stopped and did some wine tasting on the side of the road
It was wine made from all kinds of strange plants ans flowers
    None was any good
I did buy a liter of berry wine. It was pretty tasty. And at five dollars, it was a value to
I am camped on the beach here
I hope I make it thru the night and my bike is still with me

well, I survived the night here in Belize without incident. I think this danger stuff might be over-rated. But I still don't want to let my guard down.

From your prospective, I am sure my pictures look like I am living in paradise

    White sandy beaches
    Warm water
    Cold beers

But there are some things you probably don't see that detract from the whole experience.

    First......the bugs
    It isn't the mosquitos.
After Alaska, comparably, there really aren't that many.
    It's the sand flies
    Or noseeums
The bite at your feet and ankles. I have about 50 bites on each foot right now and they itch.
Then, there's the heat. It's about 90 degrees here every day. Perfect for the beach, but a little warm for wearing a jacket and pants while on the motorcycle. It's ok when going fast, but going thru Towns, it can get hot
    The nights have been ok
I didnt even use my sleeping bag last night
It is pretty warm with a nice sea breeze

Right now, I am trying to figure out where to go next
    New years is coming up
And then my birthday a couple of days later
It would be nice to be somewhere where there are people to celebrate these days with

It is nice not having any definite plans
But it is also nice knowing that I have a plan
And since I am traveling solo, those plans can change quickly and without consideration of any one else

Ok, back in the water.........gotta get away from all these bugs

Yes, I hear the beauty in Belize lies under the water
And it sure is not with their women
    Ha
I have heard stories about those wild Brazilian women
I am kind of scared to travel there
    Thanks Scubalong for following along
I am raising my glass of rum punch on the beach here to you

BTW, the rum punch here on the beach in Placentia Belize is only two dollars US a glass
    The beers are more
There is only one brewery here.......Belikin
It is pretty good stuff but its expensive since there is a monopoly. One guy told me that there is a 500 dollar fine for bringing Mexican beer in to the country
    Thats ok
I was looking to something else

I was chatting with this dude from yhe US.
His wife left him and he has only 500 dollars US coming in each month
His rent is 200 for a place on the beach
And food and misc stuff takes the other 300
So for 500 dollars a month' you too can be a beach bum here in Belize
For a thousand, you can probably be town mayor

And I have a feeling it is only going to get less expensive in Guatemala and El Salvador

Your doing a great job documenting your travels. I'm learning a lot for future trips.

Thats just it, there are many neat places in the world that one can live very well and cheap. I have a friend in Thailand that lives like a king on $2000 US per month. Cost of living is 25-30% of the US. Just have to be creative and willing to take a small risk. And it does'nt have to be forever.

I'll be curious to see what you think of Costa Rica for expat living. Take care!

I left Hopkins this morning for Placentia. My gas light was on. My trip computer said I could go another 32 milesi asked a taxi driver how far to Placentia. He said 32 miles.
My choice was to back track 5 miles or go for it the 32 miles.
    What would you do?
    Play it safe?
    Well, I went for it.
Turns out it was 38 miles and the gas station was out of gas.
Fortunately, there was another gas station in town on the docks.
In Mexico, there are lots of gas stations.
    Here. Not so much.
So, my new rule is get gas when I can.
My second rule is - don't follow my rules and go for it.
And have another rum punch on the beach.

I did about 5000 miles thru mainland Mexico in the past 30 days.
I loved all of Mexico (except Mexico City). But Baja is still my favorite.
It is the rouge state(s) in Mexico.
The tours are sooooo much fun.
    I miss them
I hope I can still do the tours when I get back from this trip
