What happened at first was that the bike would start normally, I would ride it a bit, switch off and when try to start, it would not start again for 15-20 minutes. Then, it would start normally. No backfire or any strange throttle response.
So, I changed the fuel pump for the facet one, went for a ride and the same symptoms happened. Then after another small ride, the bike refused to start completely.
The starter cranks the bike properly and I also used another battery to test.
The regulator was replaced a few years ago with a proven non OEM one, but I have a spare so, will change it over and see how it goes. I havent measured the charging voltage when the bike was running.

    OK.
I was only trying to ascertain whether your REG/REG might have recently "killed" your CDI... that seems not to be the case.
Ruling out any electrical issues, you are left with the fuel system.
Do you feel a strong smell of gasoline when cranking the bike? Or is there no fuel smell? To rule the facet out of the question simply plug the fuel filter outlet (the part that connects to the Facet inlet tube) directly to the tube that goes to the carbs (facet outlet) with the tank full. While the fuel level inside the tank is above the carbs level, you can run the bike with no fuel pump, because the fuel will reach the carbs by the gravity force alone.
Also, when the Facet is run dry, you can clearly and loudly hear it working... If you hear it chattering under these conditions (disconnected from the fuel line but still connected to the electrical system, when cranking the engine with the starter motor), then the fuel pump relay and the CDI part that governs this relay are also OK.
By the way, when was the last time you replaced your fuel filter? I've seen bikes having starting/running problems due to very clogged fuel filters... You might as well rule that out by replacing the fuel filter...

    Great thread!! :thumb

Some years ago I found this bike near a beach in Spain, parked in the sidewalk, and I took some pictures of it, as I had only seen it in pictures and magazines :eek1

    Step 1.....

Remove one spark plug, ground to engine push starter button.

You are randomly messing around with stuff with no logical sequence.

Make certain you have spark first.

    ...............................

My guess, based on the information provided so far is that the trigger coils for the ignition system located down by the stator on the left are bad.

Some Hondas, particularly the Goldwings, have had problems starting when hot. This persists until the bike won't start at all. It's related to the igntion sensors. For some reason they begin to fail when hot first...then fail completely.

This may not be the problem...it's only an educated guess.

But, please, just pull a plug and make certain you have spark. Otherwise, you are just chasing your tail.

One way you might want to check it is to....Pull a spark plug wire off and install another spark plug on the disconected plug wire. Hold the spark plug against a good ground/earth, turn on the ingition key and push the starter button. Watch for spark. If you have spark, loosen one of the carburator drain screws and see if there is any fuel in the carbs.

    What Kitped said.

C'mon man, risk-it for a biscuit, place your order with Kitped. ... :D

Why am I so keen for these?? I'm gunna lose 20mm clearance under my front fairing when I fit my LED's soon and I have future plans for an 18" rear wheel conversion. These fork extensions will kill two birds with one stone. Errr... figuratively speaking that is... no dead birds here :lol3 :lol3
