Hello and welcome to the Red Flannel Shirt Club! To join you need a few things. 1. A motorcycle. Bonus points for a Star Bolt 2. A red flannel shirt. (now accepting new members in blue, green and black) 3. A camera to take a picture of you wearing your red flannel shirt on your motorbike. Bonus points for extra hipster flare. I dunno. The vibe I get from the marketing is the flannel shirt bikers are baristas and retail clerks with Liberal Arts degrees that want to look blue collar.
Bonus points will be awarded for passing your picture through some instagram-type of a filter before posting... which you failed to do. Actually I have a sneaking suspicion you might not be a proper hipster at all :)
I have a black leather biker jacket that I bought in '91 'cause I wanted to look like Joey Ramone. I see them on the youngsters these days. Acceptable?
No dice. I used to have a lot, but I'm gentrified now. The closest I have now is a tartan printed Polo brand shirt.
Harumph! Tartan polo?! 2 hours into the thread and already lowering admission standards. What's next? Camo wife beater Ts ?
If you don't have a real red flannel shirt, then you get Jr. member status. They say you can't just hop on a Harley, well for some folks you can't just put on a red flannel shirt. You have to work up to that level of coolness.
Another example to show you how it's done. This is how I look when getting down to some serious riding.
Thanks for accepting blue flannel. I was worried. Now looking for some ray bans to go with my 3/4 lid.
I do red flannel under my leather jacket in winter, but its a red polo shirt in summer, so I am out. (but much more upscale then you guys...)
Ahhhh Pabst Blue Ribbon! Brings back memories of the "Great Beer Strike of '85" ... our local breweries (then, Labatt, Molson & Carling) went on strike for almost 6 months ... provincial gubmint brought in American suds to aleviate the drought ... bought for pennies on the can and sold for regular beer prices ... they made a KILLING that summer selling American "colored water" to beer craving locals ... So Pabst is the American Hipster's brew of choice? Here local Hipster guys n' gals like to be seen drinking "India Ale" ... A couple links concerning the "Great Beer Strike of '85" ... interesting read; http://nlbeerhistory.com/2012/04/19/the-newfoundland-beer-strike-of-1985/ http://girlfromthetick.wordpress.com/2013/02/01/the-beer-strike/
Yeah but they are really old. If you look close you can see the rubber on my right toe is coming off. They also squeek when I walk. The old lady HATES those shoes. I love em'.
Hipsters drink PBR because it's a union brewery. Most of the hipsters who actually build things and aren't just a beard and flannel shirt are from blue collar families. So they appreciate union made product, and really don't like the mass produced swill from AB-unibrau. We have a lot of craft breweries around here, so PBR has a tough sell. But it's cheap, like $1 a bottle at the local burrito joint (tecate also), so it still sells to the people who want to be seen holding one.
