Well, here's one idea: I followed Craigslist for awhile. Found my 2008 WR250X in primo condition with 2500 miles on it for $2900 used down in Abilene. Means I had to drive a bit to get it... I put it on a hitch carrier on the back of my 98 Buick LeSabre and brought it home. It's a really dumbass lookin' pic, that one! Anyhow, point is, the WRR's were only a couple hundred more and that was in prime riding season... I went with an X intentionally due to short crippled legs, but anyhow. Expensive new; not so much used. L
Some of the guys suggested using searchtempest.com to search many different Craigslist's at once. That's how I found mine. I first was headed to another one; got halfway there when the guy called me and said they couldn't find the title. Diverted course to Abilene. Plenty of used WRR's and X's in NE for sure! I saw 'em! Some dealers really gouge for 'em NEW whereas some guys got 'em brand new for 5k or just under. Though that deal was a rarified winter kind of thing from fleabay. L
If you've read much of the WRR monster thread here, though, WATCH OUT! A lot of guys buy one, then find their other bikes just aren't getting used any more. Go figure, but the WRR's and X's are silly assed fun to ride. Addictive. My KLR650 was totaled. It was a really well modded bike. But if I still owned it, it'd just be collecting dust. No comparison. Especially not FUN wise!! The KLR650 was arguably only better at one thing. It was perhaps a better "two wheeled 3/4 ton truck", but I never used that feature. My WRX is rated at 420 pounds (rider and cargo) and I never come close to using that weight limit. Then again, I only weigh 165. You don't own a KLR from your sig line. But anyway, that's my most recent frame of reference for comparison.
I agree with that 112 links is right for the 13/47 sprocket combo. The stock chain is 108 links, too short for 13/47 sprockets. I just went from a 12/43 (stock chain) to the 13/47 last weekend. Based on other advice, I cut the new chain to 110 links. It fits but the wheel is adjusted as far forward as it can go. I'm toying with the idea of getting a couple of master links and adding a link to make it 112. I riveted the master and carry a clip type spare.
craiglook used to be one of the go to craigslist searchs but they got shut down and now use this domain but do not search craigslist anymore. overall a major bummer but the do find a few bikes on other sites so it's worth using in addition. that's leaves searchtempest which is not as good. you get alot of false results and it just puts each city in it's own box vrs craiglook just listing the bike in order of posting. it's alot more work using searchtempest because of the frames but i think craiglook got the boot because they elminated the frames. http://claz.org/ http://www.searchtempest.com/
If you happen to run across the latest issue of Ironhorse there's a 6 page article in it about my TAT ride on my WR this summer. I haven't actually seen the article my self. I think this issue has old man Tuttle on the cover (booo). So anyways, toot - toot. Hugh
i recon the wrr is one of most fun bikes i have owned.its been bullet proof.i have done 25k kms thro harsh australian terrain.till date not a single nut/bolt has come loose after being nailed thro 1000s of kms of corrugations 4-6 inches tall.in fact i have changed oil/ tyres /chain and sprockets/ thats it.got a safari tank on it.12/44 sprockets. no need of gear changing in open desert where i live/ pulls like a train. need HID lights and RALLY STYLE fairing.wolfman racks, expedition panniers and saddle bag.bike set to tour the world. ANY IDEAS FOR HID LIGHTS AND RALLY FAIRINGS? yamaha got this one bloody right!
Sounds great! Here was my solution for a rally fairing and HID lights... big improvement... Britannia Composites Lynx fairing and HID light kit http://www.britanniacomposites.com/lynx.html I love mine. The wind screen raises for on the road and lowers for on the trail. It is sweet and the lighting is incredible. There was a group buy price on the WR250 forum. I will dig up the link when can. Tell Ian that Mr. Fisherman sent ya
From this thread... http://wr250rforum.forumotion.com/oh-those-sweet-mods-f5/custom-retractable-windshield-t2536-20.htm?highlight=lynx quoted... I hope this helps... Here is the thread on my install... http://wr250rforum.forumotion.com/o...iring-install-wr250x-t2739.htm?highlight=lynx
You can set up search tempset to display all results on one page, look under display options after you've done the search. It will then display them all as a google format though. I was bummed when the shut down craiglook, not sure why they did it.
is the counter shaft gearing different on the X and R models. Just did a wheel swap and it seems to have lost the snap off the line. I know the rear sprocket is different but what about the countershaft. Thanks D
