What is the warranty that comes with this bike? I can't find any info

A couple of people said that, but generally I've found if your going to take a company through court it needs to be a sizeable amount of cash.. Like $5k or more otherwise by the time u go through the process and most lawyers wont do no win no fee for that type of hearing.. It will work out about the same as paying for it yourself.. (If u loose)

Surprisingly it wasn't that hard.. The handle on the back as well as the handlebars make it easy to lift up (using ur legs)

Till now, i have done far to many modifications and acessorises to count, but to name some:

• Remus Titan Exhaust
• B&B Skid Plate (powdered black)
• Devils Eyes 2in1 Fog- and DayLights with seperate swtichs
• Holan Pannier Rack
• R&G Radiator Guard and Frame Plugs
• McCoi automatic chain oiler
• some painting & etc...

Why is it the interior of the chain isn't lubed as the outside? I didn't have this feature on my previous chain bikes. :huh

Have a look at the slider on top of the swing arm. The chain slides through that and rubs the oil off. There is also a notch in that slider to tell you when it is worn out and needs replacing.

Does that screen remove the buffeting and helmet noise completely? Is that your own mod or is it a purchasable item?

That is my own mod. I tried every purchasable item from ktm, from touring wind shield, standard WS, low (R), low (R) -4cm cut off, and now low (R) -8 cm cut off.

For me (1,88m tall) it is the best option with a WS. I would say 80% less noise and turbolances comparing to the standard R-WS. Completly shield off would be perfect for no noise, but in case of optics a no-go!

I have an 1190 R 2014 model on order - early December arrival. I will be looking at a small screen to remove the noise levels. Thanks for the info.

I may attempt to make a curved screen (towards the rider) to lower the height further. My current Aprilia Tuono has no wind sound issues above the normal low screen wind noises.

Do you ride with a non visor helmet?

I have an icon variant helmet and on the old bmw with a small screen the wind would constantly pull my head around..

Same as the ktm in its lower position, but the small screen in the higher position is pretty good.. I have ordered the non R version as well to give it a try..

I suspect if I used a non visor helmet, i wouldnt have that issue but the icon is a good looking helmet (plus the same model saved my head in the past, so i bought it again) so ill stick to it for now

on another note, I got my first edition of the Australian adventure rider magazine and saw Dan in there and had a good read about the ktm, along with dakar and some other stuff..

a treasure of information

considering buying one since I need a new bike for tax reasons

bought first KTM in 2004
950S 2003 with grey faring (50.000km) bought new
950S 2004 GO!!!!!!! was next (160.0000km) old despatch bike, second hand
640adventure R followed
950S 2004 GO!!!!!!! again, current bike (30.000km)

dealer proposed to take the 1190R for a ride while he fiddled my 950

my thoughts
*gravity at standstill is way higher, almost tipped it pushing it off the sidestand, I'm 1.92m so it wasn't short legs
*smooth like a 4 cilinder low down, raging bull above 7000rpm
*felt at home right away
*the misses too
*tried to make rear wheel break loose on purpose and had the ABS working on purpose... these systems work in a great way, not at all brutal like ABS from some years ago, pleasant surprise
*steering dampers works well, when charging out a cornerthe front wheel goes up a little and touches down whith no wobble at all
*doesn't dive under heavy braking
*had screen in lowest position and very pleased, clean wind, no buffetting
*when you go 2 gears down, no blocking back wheel, no dribbling... great stuff
*gearbox is even better than the 950's, smooth as silk, as is the clutch
*duo found grabrail well positioned and seat excellent

so I'm inclined to buy that very same bike as it's the dealer own and he changes every year
price is nice

but can I live without the vibrations of the 950?
won't I regret the roar from both Wings exhausts?
will the electrics and electronics be up to the gruelling task for years to come?


maybe, just maybe I'll hang on to the 950 a bit longer while getting used to the 1190R
maybe I'll get an SMR for doing the home-work commuting

but if I get the 1190R...
I'll probably go for the Wings exhaust as this one really sucks
I think they are very well built and quality wise better than Akras
GPS bracket which puts the GPS above the dash and since I have a full set of alu panniers of all sizes I'll go for the rack off course
and heated grips for I ride all year

I think the heat issue will be solved with the exhaust as it was on the 950 where it is the passenger melting with the original exhausts

I can' t help but comment some guy who thought the missus wasn't seated comfortably, the handlebars not in the right place, the filler cap annoyingly in the middle and the suspension rubbish cause it went all the way...
did he test the bike at all before buying?
about suspension, I weigh in at a (not so) healthy 120+ and tested the bike with my woman on the back... we had a couple of jumps but never anything bottomed out ... makes you wonder ...

Does anyone know if the factory heated grips, or aftermarket ones, can be made to work on the R model like the regular model does through the dash (I think)?
Does that make sense?

What I 'm trying to say is I think on the regular model the heated grips are activated through the menu on the dash and is it possible to set up the 1190 R model with aftermarket grips the same way?
If so, is it something a shop has to activate or can the owner of the bike do it?
