Husky TR650 - New Owners Stupid Questions Thread

Progress on my new racks……slowly but surely. The hardest part is nearly done.



Hand filing and shaping these support arms requires a lot of elbow grease and painful patience. I've worked on them a little each evening for the past week. I like to get the angles "just so".



Each one is a custom fit and I'm yet to master cutting the perfect length and angle right from the start. So, I have to back into it, kind of like steering with the rear tire around a loose turn.

But its finally starting to fall into place.





Call me old fashion, I don't mind. I still enjoy making things with my bare hands.

Almost time for the FUN to begin……where's that welder!

Amazing that you notched those by hand without a pipe notcher.

Thanks for that. I've decided to attempt to fabricate the entire thing instead of buy loops. I'm going to see how little money I can spend to have a top & side racks unit!

How good is the ABS system on the TR650? I really want an ABS equipped lightweight dual-sport, but the G650GS's system doesn't appear to be particularly well liked by reviewers.

Good enough that I can do 50 miles of gravel and sand without turning it off. Seriously.

Giving the new TCI products a workout at Big Bend. So far they are doing great.

The rear is too sensitive, I'm pretty sure it's the same guts as the G650GS.

There's a TCI product under that?

How do you like the Great Basin on the Terra?

The Husky is doing great. Feels so much lighter then it really weighs. Nimble and enough power to lift the from end up in the sand

So I came home today to find a package that I'd been anticipating for quite some time.





Everything was packed well, and the racks with bubble wrap weighed in at 12.8lbs.





Hardware pack was complete and good quality.





So to install it, remove the old rack. It is just 4 bolts.





Put the spacers in place like so...





And bolt it in.





And this is what you get.





However, I got the Denali system, so I have a couple more goodies to bolt on.


These will support the racks. They connect to your upper exhaust bracket with 13mm bolts.





The old bolts are 12mm. Put a wrench on the outside and a socket on the inside and hop to it. I removed the heat shields, but you really don't have to.









Your new 13mm bolt is longer, and will connect the support on the inside of the bracket.





And bolts on at the bottom of the rack.





Then, you bolt on your bag support if you want it there.





Now, attach your bags and enjoy the view. These are the Ortlieb QLR2 bags which have quick disconnects. Think bags that you can carry into work.





I was worried about losing the handle. I have my bikes in a tight space, and push them around a lot. It is carport Jenga. This functions well as a handle.





I added the Denai tail bag, and this is what I get.











With the Ortliebs....














The racks are stout. The tail rack makes it easy to attach a bag. The pannier racks will support hard or soft cases easily. The fitment was absolutely perfect. The welds are clean and well done. All in all, the TCI racks have absolutely been worth the wait.

I've got the same boots.

That TCI stuff is pretty snazzy.

Still working on my Superack. Had to run off the press photographers, so I could do the uber secret part. It will be a little while yet until the grand roll-out.

Nice photo in BBRSP, NJoy! I love that place, been there 3 times in past 4 years. Still got unfinished business there.
