After 5 miles or so the rear wheel/ tire on my 87 elite 150 is hot to the point you can't keep your hand on it. I have replaced the exhaust gasket but still same issue. Maybe it's normal? Anyone have this issue?
They do get pretty hot, right next to the muffler and with that drum brake inside, in addition to being enclosed and right behind the engine. And a 10 inch rim rotates really fast, too. Be sure you have enough air pressure (I like 32 cold) and that it rotates freely when on the center stand with the engine off.
Hows the gasket where the exhaust tube that bolts to the engine? YOu ve got that one and the gasket where the muffler is bolted to. You ve got a big clamp there. Anything like a cheap c clamp from home hardware isn't going to work As the other guy said if you run a tire under inflated it can heat up to. I found that after 5 min both of my elite 250 and helix that the engine / muffler make the area around the tire hot. Are the bearing good? Brake shoes not dragging? That can heat up the tire area fast .
Both my 2013 PCX-150 and my old 1986 Elite 250 run with very hot rear tires. It's all good. Just make sure you don't over inflate the tires.
