That's a pretty respectable step , but I couldn't help but notice that you have a brick wall back there just begging for it!
Thanks. I've noticed too, just trying to build up my abilities a bit more (I've been at this sporadically for a couple of months, but only been on the bike half a dozen times). The brick thing is an old built in bbq grill. Its maybe 2' wide at the top so I'd need to stack pallets on the backside or be able to hold pressure all the way up and off so as not to endo after I get up the step. Those red pallets are about 6" bigger than the one I used for the step - I'll swap out soon to gradually work up to something a bit taller
I participated in a trials event yesterday that was held entirely in the land owner's backyard (well, a section or two was in his sister's yard next door). I didn't think to take pics for this thread. I think my wife took a few - I'll check and post if so. I believe next week's event is also in a backyard. I'm jealous.
I know it a backyard thread but here's a front yard post. Work in progress. Before: During: Still During: I need to find a machine to move them around bit. I am very excited. I'll throw down some mulch and what not, disguise the trials course as landscaping. It was my wife's idea. She's a genius, she really wanted landscaping which is something I normally have zero interest in. Needless to say with this I have plenty of interest. -Scott
As a trials newbie, I'm fairly comfortable with log crossings in general (within reason) with the glaring exception of logs with a downhill approach. I've managed to get through the ones I've seen in sections this season but with much less precision and control than uphill/flat/sidehill logs. So today I dragged a little log to the hill in the backyard for some practice. I put it in a pretty mild spot figuring I can move it to a steeper spot when needed. Unfortunately I got wrapped up in other stuff and didn't have a chance to actually ride it yet... I'm looking forward to the practice.

damn he just makes it looks soo easy. If only I had 1% of those skills I'd be dangerous!! I lost a couple tree's recently from Hurricane Irene and now I know exactly what their about to become!! Thanks for some great ideas out there!!
I still haven't stumbled into a source (or means to deliver) large rocks without breaking the bank. I'm not looking too hard - just hoping that they'll fall (figuratively, not literally) into my lap. My brother mentioned that they were throwing away a couple of large shipping crates at his work. I figured they'd make a good substitute for a couple of big rocks. I placed them on top of some scrap pressure treated stuff I had laying around to slow the rotting process and used some other scrap for a couple of ramps for variety. Should be good for some fun, and since it's all untreated wood, it'll make a nice bonfire when it starts to fall apart. Coincidentally, my neighbor brought home a couple of loads of wood recently too. With a little nudging around, they turned into a nice "rock" pile. I really enjoy riding at home. Lately, my daughter has been joining me on her XR50 which is a huge grin factor. Good times...
