I doubt that heat will be any worse, and might be better with water cooling around the valves. Mechanically, and for power, I see this as a big forward step. Design? We will see! Jim
Yup, clutch on the front. I wonder how exposed that ridge on the bottom is? Looks like the oil drain is the lowest possible point. Good for draining oil, very exposed if the bash plate isn't very strong. Jim
It works for me assuming the alternator is reliable. Looks like it is permenant magnet so no brushes to wear out. It will have a separate external diode pack so the only thing left to break are bearings if there are any and they could be oil fed from the box. Clutch on the other hand is a consumable part so will at some point need replaced which is a real pain on the current bike. What I haven't seen anywhere is the starter motor. The only stuff I have seen mentioning it is the blurb about how the exhaust valves have auto decompressors making the engine easier to start so a smaller starter is needed. It will be there somewhere just I haven't spotted it.
Funny how BMW is offering engines that look different on their site, different from the whole bike photos.
No, I'm downloading the engine photos from the BMW site, and they have a mix of generations on the new GS page. I deleted the earlier designs. Sorry.
Thanks for the embedded high res pics.. When I have time, I think I'm going to copy them to a closed pics thread.
