Boise ride this weekend...

Sorry for the slightly off-topic post. I just sold my VStrom 650 and am out looking for my next bikes.

I'm planning on a R1100GS, R1150GS, 950 Adventure, or road type bike for my main bike. It will need to handle a fairly regular 50 mile commutes on the freeway and I'd like it to handle some basic dirt and fire roads.

I'm also planning on picking up a second bike. I'd was originally planning on something I can throw in the back of the truck and go riding with my son as he is getting a bike and will be learning to ride a motorcycle, he's had atv's in the past. Since I'm looking at a second bike, I was thinking maybe it make sense to look for something I can use for dual sporting when my other ride is just too big. Something that could handle some two lane asphalt but would be good on a single track here in Idaho, I'm in Nampa, or pack in the trailer when we go camping.

My question is, I was originally planning on a two-stroke, KDX200, KTM 250 EXC or like, or YZ250 that had been modifed for the woods. Now that I'm thinking more about dual sporting it. I'm wondering if I should be looking towards a 250-450cc four stroke, XR, DR350, DRZ, TTR, XT, KTM EXC, WR250F, KLX. Air cooled bikes sound like they are bit more bulletproof, the liquid cooled ones are going to be more work. The two strokes are still an option and I think they can be plated her in Idaho pretty easy. I'm 6' about 210 lbs, more with gear.

Any recommendations for second bike that would be good here in Idaho , unfortunately my budget is $1500-$2000, closer to $1500.

Another solid effort Jason. I must have been just a day ahead of you guys at Featherville & Dollarhide. No hint of closures then, but the smoke was crazy thick.

What a great report! You have a great eye for pics. That picture of your wife and your bike wedged in the rock should be published in a magazine.

I just found out that the guy that has been doing my BMW stuff is not doing it anymore - I'm really not fond of Big Twin - isn't there a gent that does BMW stuff out of his garage here in Boise that is supposed to be pretty good??

I'd sure appreciate some hints.

Well, it appears that all the repairs are done (sans 1 bolt for the bar end) on my bike. Anyone ready to ride? As I already mentioned a while back I plan on using 8th street as my "Road to recovery" ride but once at the top I'll go anywhere.

How about this Friday night or Saturday day?

Note: This isn't supposed to be a death march but just a fun spin around the Boise foothills so I can get my riding groove back.

Heading to Copper Basin this weekend for some dirt biking. Anyone else going that direction? If so, may see you up there.

I just installed a new Hall Sensor in my 2002 1150 GSA, and now the engine won't start, which is leading me to believe that I need to time the engine. This (http://advwisdom.hogranch.com/Wisdom/oilhead_hall_sensors.pdf) outlines a way to build your own Hall Sensor timing device, but it seems like a ton of running around and work to build it. Therefore, I thought that I'd put a shout out to the local Boise ADV community to see if anyone had a Hall Sensor timing unit--and if so, if I could borrow it to time my Hall Sensor?

Today has been quite the emotional day for me. Some of you that follow my thread have probably been wondering what some of the cryptic posts have meant and why my riding and writing has suffered during the height of riding season. I'm finally ready to go public with my new business venture.

Today, I quit my job in aviation and am now full steam ahead with the Backcountry Pursuit. The Backcountry Pursuit will be Boise's first and only outdoor adventure gear consignment shop. Think "used REI." We will take people's items in on consignment and offer them for sale. We are looking for any type of equipment that falls under the umbrella of outdoor/backcountry adventure gear. Backpacking, hiking, trail running, camping, kayaking, rafting, skiing, snowboarding, telemarking, climbing, mountain and road biking. Any and all equipment, apparel, and soft goods associated with these sports is exactly what we want.

In addition to the above sports, I am happy to announce here that I will be taking anything associated with adventure motorcycling and motocross. Helmets, Jackets, Pants, gloves, boots, goggles, protective gear, tank bags, GPS units and mounts, and any other thing you may need to take your motorcycle into the backcountry.

Start going through your piles of gear in the garage and closet. Figure out what you want to make some money on, CLEAN IT really well, and bring it down to the store when we open.

I am hoping to ink the deal for the property on Tuesday, so I'll have an address. The timeline is as follows; September 24th to October 11th I will be at the store to take consignments before our Grand Opening. Grand Opening is Friday, October 12th. I'll be offering a 10% discount on my consignment rate for any items consigned with me before the Grand Opening.

Make some money on that stuff you don't use anymore and have the opportunity to get some great deals on some stuff you've always wanted. This is great way for you to "Trade up". So did you sell your too big for you klim pants already or they the first item to go on a rack?
